We send our blades out to a local heat treater with very specific, tested instructions on how we want them done. That's as much as I can say =)

Now that process is one I would love to see a video of, even if it were heavily editted to remove any trace of proprietary detail

I find that funny that you would trust your reputation on some other company .....
Heat treatment will make or break you guys , If I found a knife not properly heatreated , I would question all your knives then.

I'm with DJ on this... then again my forum knife seems exceptional to me.

I know there are well known such as Bos for heat treatment.

I'm thinking you need to find a different company to heat treat your M390...

Talking about the warping issue, or does the M3990 not hold an edge?

The warping. Now that you mention it, though, I do wonder about that. I did something stupid and used my 581 to open our bathroom door lock (one of those locking knobs that can be opened from the outside with a screwdriver, table knife, etc. for safety), and chipped it slightly near the tip. I've done this with my M4 Presidio, my 154CM Rift, my mini-Grip, and my ATS-34 812s-lh with no issues, so I was surprised to see the M390 chip so easily. I know it's not made for that, but c'mon... I didn't use much pressure at all.

Sounds to me like you need to hang a key next to the lock ......LOL

There is no key to it. It's just a safety release so no one can get locked in. I usually grab a table knife or a coat hanger, but sometimes my knife is the closest thing. I'm just surprised that of all these steels, M390 is the only one to chip.
