Raindrop Damagrip - Up dated
I've had this material for a while now.
But, I have had no time to use it! I made these today.
Can you see the texture on these?
It feels like felt! It's hard to get a lot of the detail to show in the pics with this light.

Nice work as usual , but Dam thats Ugly stuff.
Is it a cloth ??0 -
I think it looks good but I think it might look better with a satin or stonewashed blade. Nice workmanship Keyman! 0 -
I must say that it almost looks like a carpet material ........is it ??
Or what exactly is it. ??
It also looks fuzzy .... is it ??0 -
Nice work as always but don't think this stuff would be a winner

I actually think it looks really cool, almost like sandstone with the pattern.
Does the "fuzz" hold any water? And how durable is it? Though, it looks like you were able to machine it pretty well.0 -
Not my favorite material, but you do good work. 0 -
Keyman,
I love the way you experiment with things like materials and finishes, no one can say that you don't personalize a knife....

weird lookin stuff Keyman. I like the new shape! 0 -
Now that's an interesting look. The texture looks great too. 0 -
Very cool. For some reason I picture it feeling like the particle stuff ikea furniture is made of underneath the top layer. 0 -
Nice shape! 0 -
It makes me sneeze.

That stuff's got an interesting look, I wonder how it will hold up.

Nice work. That stuff looks interesting for sure. I like how you're always looking for new materials to experiment with. 0 -
Keyman you wouldn't happen to be playing with Kirinite would you? 0 -
Looks kind of cool. How does it do wet? 0 -
Thanks guys.
I really do like messin' new stuff.
No Dingo I haven't worked with Kirinite.
They say it is similar to Corian.
When this stuff here gets wet it turns black.
But, when it dries it's back to it's normal look.
Well, it's called Damagrip. It's a canvas micarta product made by a on line knife parts store. It feels a lot like felt. I made the scales as you see them in the pics above. Played with the knife all day. Carefully put one drop of lube on it, so it made no contact with the scales. But, by the next morning I had a big stain all around the pivot area. Didn't look so good. I washed the area with alcohol it came out ok, but darkened.
So, I wanted to get rid of the fuzz or knap; so I sanded. Coarse to fine. But, instead of showing more detail the scales darkened even more. The finer I sanded the daker the got?
So, I buffed it......Oh my god! It turned black! A nasty crayon black, with absolutely no detail at all. Well, I went back to the 50 and sanded it all away. After a little more experimenting, this is what I've got.......

Wow - I like that better than the first pics. Nice work.

Looks really good but sounds like you have to take a lot of car with it to avoid staining or changing the look of it. I wonder if you could clear coat it or something. 0 -
Not a whole lotta care. They do darken eventually from the oils that come from your hands.
I'll try to post some pics of them with the darkening effect. But, all it takes to bring them back to snuff is a quick swipe with a alcohol rag or a soap and water wash. I just wipe it with the alcohol rag once in a while. No scrubing. It has a very cloth feel to it. The grip is outstanding. Keeping it. More photos to come.0
