LifeSharp Sharpening
My question was (I've tried to email Mike about this but for some reason it won't send an email to his address), what do you guys use to sharpen the blades? Grinder and a really fine belt? Finish with a ceramic rod? And what grit do you take them down to? I have always been curious about this...

Stupid question but I've been curious to ask. For knives that you've had the longest, how many times would you estimate you've sharpened them and at what point do you feel you've taken the blade down so much that it's time to replace the knife or blade, if possible?

Mike the ones I carry the most have been sharpened at most 4 times. Granted most are excellent knife steels which retain an edge better that the standard steels. I don't know that I would ever wear down a blade to a point where it would need replacing due to use and sharpening. My rotation keeps me changing up my carry daily and when they I notice that they are not cutting as well I take them across the strop. If I've gone past that they are sharpened on a WE which in my opinion removes the least amount of steel possible.
The great thing about LifeSharp is that if I ever do bring a knife to the point of needing a blade replacement from wear, I can send it in to BMC CS and get it replaced for a lot less than replacing the entire knife!

As Bill likes to hammer "strop more, sharpen less"
I've moved to a leather belt for the Ken Onion Work Sharp with a diamond slurry spray. With 5 different micron sizes it really changes stropping. I still do some on a board, but most of my edges are convex grinds
