Knife of the year! The 808 Loco is one mean, muscular blade. Fantastic design, with even better ergonomics in-hand. To me, it's a very desirable EDC choice, and has now taken over that role, sending my 477 Emissary to sit on the dresser for the time being. The Loco is a thing of beauty, yet it has balls! Look for my detailed review to come... 0 -
Is it that good? The pics just make it look odd, almost unfriendly in the hand.
Talk me into it....0 -
It is that good and then some. This knife just becomes part of you, like an extension of your hand, but with a blade of course. Best ergonomics on a hard use folder that I've ever come across. I was initially a bit worried about the size and heft of the Loco before buying it. But I've got to say, I don't mind the 6.5 ounces in my pocket whatsoever, as it surprisingly seems to almost disappear once clipped to my pants. The added peace of mind that this knife gives me is worth it's weight in gold. I feel much more comfortable carrying this blade, knowing it will stand up to heavier cutting tasks than most of my Benchmade folders. I've also now realized just how fantastic (and useful) the reverse tanto design really is. The Loco's handle in conjunction with it's beefy blade, great belly and wicked tip make this knife a grand slam for me. Oh, and did I mention how sexy the thing looks? Imagine an already gorgeous woman getting a boob-job. The custom milled hardware is fantasticly pleasing to the eyes, especially when you get the Loco in hand. Photos don't do it justice. Handle one, I bet you'll fall in love like I did.
Look for my proper, detailed review of the 808 Loco still to come...0 -
Marty,
Have you done any extended hard cutting with the Loco?
How did it feel after about five minutes of hard cutting?0 -
Yes I have. I've owned the Loco for a month now, been doing some extensive testing since then. I will say that upon my first venture into heavy duty applications with the Loco, I was a bit nervous of the potential hot-spot where the pocket clip meets my palm. I however was pleasantly surprised. No discomfort to my palm or any abrasion whatsoever. The ergonomics of the handle make it so that gripping this knife with a solid purchase is a thing of ease. However, I did notice the the inevitable feeling of the pocket clip in my palm when in use for extended periods of time. This is something I quickly got over though. Not a problem for me.
An added note:
The 808 Loco came from factory with a WICKED edge, and is noticeablbly the sharpest, most impressive Benchmade blade I've aquired over the years. I believe they've really stepped up their sharpening game as of late.0 -
But when you cut hard, in a standard grip, the force is concentrated on the forward spine of the handle under the web of your palm, and on the rear bottom of the handle where your last two or three fingers wrap around the handle, not on the side of the handle where the pocket clip is. How was the comfort in those areas?
Thanks!0 -
Excellent comfort, excellent grip... 0 -
Why? You find otherwise, Po? 0 -
I do, yes, but I still love the knife, so I'm very interested in details of other people's experiences. 0 -
Then you will most likely enjoy my upcoming FULL detailed review of the 808 Loco. Like I said, stay tuned for that...(it's long) It's my take on the knife after having obsessed over it for quite some time and having used it every day since owning it. Everything I've shared so far is just a teaser. Hang in there, I'll get the review up as soon as it's finished. 0 -
I really love the blade.
