Top Factory EDC's
In the February 2013 issue of BladeMag there's an excellent article about 'What are your top factory EDC's?' and makes good reading. Of the choices, below #1, the CRK Sebenza, and #2, the Spyderco Sage 2. is #3...the Benchmade 940.
Also mentioned at the top of the article are Kudos for the Griptilian series.
You guys might want to pickup a copy; some good words said about a couple of our favorite models.

I guess we ignore the 'Popular Vote' and go with our own opinions huh?

Really, how many people actually "own" Sebenzas? It might be number one by opinion, definitely not by sales. (at least my opinion, I don't have data here).0 -

True
Yes, because we're always right!
The Sebenza does seem like an odd choice for #1 though... they're certainly nice knives, but it doesn't really strike me as that good of an EDC.0 -
Funny enough, a guy on the USN wrote the article. If you're a member there you can read about it in the "high quality production knives" section. 0 -
I guess in some circles there are parameters for what makes an EDC knife. They usually use the term to refer to smallish knives, I've noticed...lots of times with 4" handles...sometimes 4.5" handles.
I rarely carry small knives but I do carry a knife every day, so I consider mine as EDC's even though they might be bigger, like an 806 or a 710.
I doubt a 710 would ever make it into an EDC discussion on USN...it's just too big.0 -
After much experience I think an Ares belongs in the best EDC catagory. 0 -
I wagle my beard at BladeMag's top EDCs...Plplplplplplplplplpl!

I'm all for a 586, but it would only be better for those times when you can't carry a proper sized knife. For most days, the 581 is the perfect size for me.0 -
I love my sebenza, but people definitely vote it up because "it's a sebenza." My 940s see way more pocket time. My biggest issue with the sebenza is the relatively low hardness they go for with the s35vn and the s30v. 58 really? 60 would really give me that warm fuzzy feeling.
Of all the spydercos, the sage has always been the one that interests me the most, but still, spydercos just don't quite do it for me.
Either way, good choices for top 3, but not quite in the order I'd vote them in.quote:Originally posted by Crazyhorse:

I totally agree. I'm really glad they brought back the ares this year, I probably never would have had a chance to experience this knife if it weren't for the LE's this year. Ares definitely goes in my top 5 benchmade designs.0 -
I signed on as a member of the USN forum and they have very specific likes and and tend to be very "herd" like in their knife choices, I would take it with a grain of salt.
I said it before, I don't think the Sebenza is what the hype and price make it, sorry I just can't be convinced, any BM blue class and up(it's a matter of personal choice and there are plenty to choose from) IMHO is a much better edc, did I just piss some Sebenza fanboy off? so be it, just expressing MO.0 -

Archer from what you have said that seems to make perfect sense to me regarding the USN Forum, I trust your observations completely as I am not a memebr of that Forum.
As to ticking off some Sebenza fanboy on another Forum well “It Happens”... ROLMAO
This list is just some votes that have been accumulated and at the end of the day the TOP Factory ECD is the one that you (or we) personally like and spend our own hard earned dollars on and love...
I just vote with my money...

Sebenzas have a "Cool factor", not unlike the cool factor you get from a Mercedes. Imo, if you've never had one, I say try one. You are true knife guys. You deserve one. Then, if you don't like it, sell it. They hold their value just like a Mercedes.

Sebenzas are maybe about prestige as they are about function, maybe.. I held one and to honest I was underwhelmed, it is a production knife, not a custom, it is plain, with just the standard materials used in knife making today, I heard the FF argument, So? does that command the attention or the price?
In my part of the world a Mercedes has a bit of a stigma and it has nothing to do with bieng German, gangsters, shady contractors and Palestinians drive them.
But that's just MO.0
