Hello and a 771 question
I have just joined after being a long time lurker. Hello to all and here is my question. I sold a gray aluminum handled 771 with a black finished blade to a co-worker and wish I hadn't. This usually happens when I sell a knife. Anyway, I have not seen another like the one I had and only a handful of the other variations. Are they particularly scarce or is it just my part of the country (WV, KY)?
I have several other Benchmades so I'm not hurting for knives to use, but would like to get another 771 sometime.
Thanks for any info.

They have been discontinued for quite sometime but they come up for sale here often enough. With some patience and perhaps a post in the want to buy section, you should be able to pick one up.
Thanks for coming out from the shadows...we look forward to your participation.0 -

Welcome to the Forum,
You know that topic would actually make a great tread, the knives that you regret selling and that could be a great start for you here also...
As Neuro has said they do come up here from time to time, also you may want to take a look at the 470 Emissary as it's similar but open assist.
We also have a "Wanting to Buy" section that you could place an post up in and see who might have one that they want to sell..

Thank you all for the welcome. I have been visiting here for a few years and have appreciated the information that's been made available through the forum very much.
I will have to check out the Want to Buy section. The only dealer in my area is a Cabela's about 50 miles away. I did examine an Emissary there and it is quite similar to the 771. I didn't buy it because I'm not sure I want assisted opening on an axis lock as the unassisted versions are pretty darn smooth.0 -

Welcome to the forum! I would recommend the Emissary. It is very nice and smooth, and the Assist can be disabled if you really don't want it.0 -
Keep in mind though that the 470 is quite a bit larger. 0 -

You mean the 77x was smaller than the 470?? Holy cow, that thing must have been tiny!
EDIT:
OK, found the specs. Slightly larger, but not by much. Just a quarter-inch longer when closed.
470
Blade Length: 3.00"
Overall Length: 6.90"
Closed Length: 3.90"
77x
Blade Length: 2.80"
Overall Length: 6.50"
Closed Length: 3.70"0 -
might only be a quarter inch but it is really amazing seeing the difference in person. 0 -

That's what my wife says to me all the time now...ROLMAO
But seriously when you look at the clips and the 470 has a deep pocket clip and the 770 had a one screw clip, I would call it a wash over all (IMO)..
Personally I would love to see the 4XX series expanded as a replacement to the 770's and in a way bring them back even better...

Hmmm... M390 or Elmax or CTS-XHP blade, CF handles with cocobolo inlays (or vice versa), anodized Ti handles with wood inlays...0 -

Yes, the 770 is tiny. it doesn't seem like a huge amount, but they are a lot different when you have them next to eachother.

something,
I do see your point when they are side by side, but when you take it all into consideration I personally don't mind the little extra with the 470's deep picket clip and assisted opening (IMO).
But having said that you are most differently correct, if it's a small Gentleman’s or Ladies Knife you want the 770 does have the size advantage and there are a lot of people that want that...
