I believe there is no backspacer on the 710-3, it has steel/silver colored barrel spacers by desig . At one point they were going to be anodized with color - wouldn't that have been cool

but it didn't work out that way. I really wish they'd gotten some blue or red spacers like the LE grips!

    +1

No back-spacer was intended, just the silver barrel ones

Stainz - I will offer to swap the standard back spacer from my 710D2 for the barrel spacers in your 710-3 if you like the standard one better.

Why do you wants back spacer?

There might be a problem; 710-3 is slightly different than the others. It might be simpler to swap blades.
Keyman would be able to elaborate more.

I don't necessarily want a backspacer, I honestly just wondered if it was missing on my new 710-3. Thanks for the replies!

I picked one one up Saturday also..Be carefull not to close it too hard the blade will hit one of the barrel spacers and nick it.

We have some members who prefer a solid back-spacer. I've heard them say that it helps keep pocket lint out of the mechanism.

Personally, if a knife arrives here with a back-spacer, I usually change it right out for some kind of threaded spacer...whether a barrel or whatever, but I want it "threaded" and not sliding around on the screw.

If you are having trouble with the blade hitting those big silver barrel spacers, you might want to change them for devo hat spacers like we had on the Forum Knife. That gives you a little more space for the blade.

I'd return it and ask for a knife that won't damage itself with use.

Ya, that's a point. When sending it in, you can also request that Benchmade repair install devo hat spacer while they are checking it out. Those guys might not remember the old 80's rock band called the Devos, so I guess you could call them hour-glass shaped spacers.

I think keyman said those spacers aren't threaded, so you can loosen the screws, push the spacers out a little, and then retighten. That ought to give you the needed separation between blade edge and spacers.

Then again, you could just send it back and say "This is just wrong."

I believe BM is fairly aware of the problem by now.

I think that the perceived problem of the blade hitting the barrel spacers is just an illusion. When you have an older 710 with a back spacer; you can't see the blade edge when you close it.
If you look from the back, near the bottom; you can see that there is so much room that it would be darn near impossible to hit those barrel spacers.

But you can see on many 710s and 707s cuts in the back spacer where the blade DID hit the spacer. Doesn't matter that much with a plastic spacer, but it does happen to some knives that have metal barrel spacers which does suck.

And all of my 710s with regular plastic back spacers hit that spacer.

Plastic back spacers might not do as much damage as metal standoffs when contacted, but with ats-34 (old ascent) and lower hardness cpm-m4 (mini presidio blade in mini bone collector handle) I saw rolled blade edges due to contact with the plastic back spacer that was alleviated by relieving the back spacers with a dremel. It might not be an issue with a harder blade material or a higher bevel angle.
