My first reaction is what the hell, I can't see a difference to the 470 or am I missing something...

I don't own one, but here are my thoughts:

    Osborn Design +1
    Not a 94x (maybe a -1 for you)
    Nice pocket clip
    Nice 3" knife

Perhaps they are going to expand the 470 range to take up the old 770 segment of the market with different handle materials and this is getting ready for it..??

They were always just the 470 Emissary and never a 470-1, so I am guessing an expansion as I said above..

Really Geo this is strange and I get a feeling of something BIG about to happen for 2013 in my GUT...

"-1" has been used many times, I think it means that only the the scales have been changed on the original production configuration.

Honestly it looks the same to me when I look at mine and then the picture, perhaps a lttle darker in color but then that could just be my computer screen..

No Not Black, but if you compare them you could call it a Dark Grey I think..

Here are both to compare against, to see the side by side

Dig the clip and the axis lock lugs.

I wish it wasn't assisted though, I know that sounds weird but I work in NJ and assisted is a no no.

    Blade thickness is 0.000? It's not a knife, it's a Lightsaber and that's a typo.

All jokes aside this is crazy and is also one of the reasons why I hate buying anything over the Internet now, I just pulled out my 470 and put it up to the picture of the 470 and in reality it's MUCH darker.

I look at the 470-1 and I see Dark Grey and not Black, you go to Benhamdes site and the 470 doesn't show up in the search just the 470-1...

That's because it Is a different knife, and it looks like they're going with this one only.

Unless in including the typo about blade thickness they accidentally deleted the stock 470...or just maybe they're discontinuing it?

Who knows? We'll all know more in the spring.

The big picture looks dark grey, but the smaller picture down below looks black to me... it could just be the lighting. either way, I guess it's different than the current 470

I don't mind black, and it looks like they've re-done the ends of the axis bar to look different (better

). I don't own one of the regular grey ones, but I think I'll have to keep an eye out for this new design.

Well they do say that a picture paints a thousand words....LOL

God there are so many different shades of black also (I think that’s the way to put it), this just takes me back to my personal view that I am getting sick of buying things over the Internet now.

I guess unless I know the knife, seen it in person and held one, I am so wary of going off Internet or Computer Screens as a consumer…

I asked Jason about this the other day, here's his response to the 'why' of it:

"The 470 is discontinued. Essentially the vendor cannot hit our color standards for the grey. Too much scrap and re-work so we eliminated the problem and now only offer the black. Will work with the vendor to identify other color options for future opportunities."

    FYI.

Thanks, WDW for posting the pictures of the knife. So often we have entire threads go on for pages talking about a certain knife and lots of times I can't remember what they look like. Pretty lazy of me to not look it up...right? Anyway, thanks for making it easy for us by providing the pictures.

While on the subject, sometimes guys (me too, I'm sure) will post a pic of their EDC or whatever and not mention what it is. That info too is great to have.

So does this mean the original Emissary is discontinued? Its not featured in the 2013 catalog
