Prototype a Control profile combo blade?
Something has always bothered me: did Benchmade prototype and discard the idea of a combo blade whose serrations were further up the edge?
All of Benchmade's commercial releases are a combo where the serrations are just beyond the choil. . Yet in a choked up grip (among others) this portion of the blade is under the finest control by the muscles of the user. Essentially consuming the control space with ripping teeth that don't require precision and putting the finer blade edge in a less controlled area of the bevel.
At the same time, you would want to preserve a fair amount of the belly near the tip as a sharp edge because most people doing a push cut will be doing so towards that area.
So on a 3.4 in cutting edge, why not use a broader grind on a premium steel, from the choil to maybe +1 inch, then serrated the next inch of the edge, and go to a finer grind (or return to the base grind) from that point, through the belly, to the tip?
There has to be a reason that knifemakers don't do that, what am I missing?
