Benchmade : What Do You Think Will Be New In 2013
Well as we come close to the end of the 2012 and 2013 comes fast upon us, I thought it might be interesting for us all to look into our own crystal balls and see what we could imagine might be new out of Benchmade for 2013…
I am sure that it’s all locked away and the 2013 Catalogs are already done, but what the hell this could be fun and let’s see who gets the closest to what the reality is when Shot Show comes up and everyone knows…

I'm hoping for an Axis Stryker and more blades of 4 inches...ooo and some S90V would be cool
0 -
AXIS Stryker with real flat dark earth G10 scales, not painted. 0 -
Oh, and a few more Ares variations would be nice too.

I think that there might be more colors available on some older knives like the 520/525 but perhaps with G-10 Scales.

a 586!!!

what we hope there will be and what will be may be two totally different things.
I think there might very well be a flipper. It seems likely because flippers are very popular right now. even spyderco is coming out with one. I think that it's likely that if a Benchmade flipper does come out it won't have an axis lock which will be disappointing to me but I will probably still get one
another knife I wish they would make would be something along the lines of the triage, but instead of the seatbelt cutter would have a flip out thingy that would hold screwdriver bits and would lock. Kershaw has one sort of like this but it's rubbish and the screwdriver bit holder doesn't lock out. I doubt we'll see anything like this either though.0 -

Not to mention the knife looks like a dogs breakfast that has been regurgitated after sitting in it's stomach for a half day...0 -

AMEN! (crossing fingers on both hands)0 -
I'm sure we'll all be surprised with the new offerings.
One thing that would get me off my butt and ordering knives would be a 581 with a nice one-piece handle made of G-10, CF, Micarta or whatever, but the metal bolsters sour me on the original version. I accept and agree that the 581 is the apex of the Barrage family, but the simplest answer is often the right one...so I hope they'll try a simple one piece handle.

Hi Fastjan,
That's a hard one, Benchmade has already done a version of a 580 with M390 as a Limited Edition (580-1102) with a run of only 50 already with Black G-10 Scales which would be in reality what you want as a 581 with Full Black G10 Scales.
Also they did a Limited Edition of the 585-1 and 585SBK-1 in 154CM Steel with Black G10 Scales for the 2010 Shot Show, so in a way they have hemmed themselves in a bit in a way.
Having said that wouldn’t it be nice to see some color scales available for the Barrage in G-10 and I just the idea of yours for Carbon Fiber or Micarta, in anything BUT Valox…..LOL..

+1 All I've ever owned from the series is a 580 and a 585, both with Valox handles. Yes, something other than Valox or the two piece metal-bolstered handles would be my hope...as long as it still had that great looking 581 M390 blade.quote:WDW wrote...Having said that wouldn’t it be nice to see some color scales available for the Barrage in G-10 and I just the idea of yours for Carbon Fiber or Micarta, in anything BUT Valox…..LOL..

G-10 Scaled 940. 0 -

A G-10 940 that's a great idea....

+200. I would buy a 940, maybe even a 943 too if these came in G-10. (I like black thanks) It's been done in LE models, now it's time for regular production versions. Hello Benchmade?

I agree with 940's and I'd take one with g10 however how about just some more aluminum handled colors. Not that I don't like green and black but can we get a blue.... or a red again.
I'd also like to see a smaller bedlam, maybe I am alone on that one but my thinking is 741/7460 -
Yes, Please....940 and Grips in G-10's and/or Micarta's...anyone at BM listening? 0 -
The 'Customize a Barrage' program...

Many brothers have talked about 940 with G10 handles; sorry, I beg to differ. The 940 is often viewed as a dress knife and quite rightly so. I believe it deserves more higher-end/classy handles, my personal favorite would be the carbon fiber one used in the Onslaught. I know that there had been an issue of 940 in carbon fiber in the past (don't know what year) but I was not into Benchmade then. You can't have perfect timing each time can you. 0 -
I am hoping for our own Ti framelock to make the listing for 2013. Give it at least a 3.5" blade with fluted scales and M4 steel.
I would also love to see the venerable 530 given a production slot in G-10 and S30V. Yes it might weigh more and be a tad thicker, but that beautiful spearpoint blade deserves a make-over if we keep it another year.
And let's take the HK line and either cancel the whole series or give us better quality in anything other than black please. And make the knives here with Crucible blade steel, not the 9CR13 stuff.
Thanks Benchmade!0 -

Joe,
I was with you on the Ti framelock up until the M4 Steel, 154cm or S30V is good enough for me as I don't keep my hopes up too high...ROLMAO
Hell the whole H&K thing could go and partner with an real American Gun Company, I don't know may be "KIMBER" (OK I have had my wet drean for the day...LOL)....

I would say that I think Lightning has struck...and Fastjan as well, and many have added 1's and other inmcrements: enhancements of the Barrage, and Folding Presidio lines seem viable, as does a G-10 94X variation.
But Benchmade must go beyond new handles on old models. A photo from the Vegas G4 show had some new Balisong concepts, and a straight razor, but what else?
I'm at kind of a loss actually...
I'd definately buy Presidio/Mini Presidio variants with G-10 handle scales. Ditto the 94X.
I'd definitely buy a MDP version of the 760 LFTi...oh would I ever!
To my mind, there are a couple of gaps in the line right now - just from my personal use perspective - a premium 5.5-6 inch tactical utility fixed blade, and a more tactical Axis model in the 940 size format, ala the HK Nitrous Blitz. Yes, I already have a Nitrous Blitz, and I think it is the shiz, but it needs the Axis lock. A 5.5" Sibert Scout fixed blade would do very nicely.
And of course, there is the custom bali shop (woohoo!), and the old standards, the full sized Sibert Pocket Rocket, and an Axis 3550.
I'd love to see some new models in the HD Hardtail format with the Al frames and inlays. some anodizing on the Al frames please, ala the Gold Class Torrent.
But over the last twenty years, Benchmade has always been able to surprise me by coming up with something even better than I imagine. I'd like to see something really superb come out with the Lone Wolf "Paul" lock.0 -
I would imagine that whatever Benchmade will come up with...they've already come up with. I don't know for sure but I think it would be too late now to start a new project. It's probably already done.
Fortunately, like Po said, they usually surprise me by coming up with something better than I had visualized.0 -
Not to get to philosophical, however it is not really possible to visual things that have not existed...
In regards to this thread, what do I see Benchmade coming out with in 2013? Who knows, and all we pretty much ask for is stuff that is a rehash of current models or expansion of current trends.
I see some Bali love, however they may have already tipped their hand on that one.
I suggest that as the economy just limbs along, it would be nice for Benchmade to put a few "value" priced knives in the line up. I mean solid simple knives in the entry level category. At one time there was the Red Class and the Grips have evolved overtime to be a bit pricey to be called budget knives. Something that hits the streets at $49-$69 range and USA made.0 -
Definitely a new iteration on the 940. Probably my most favorite knife.
Otherwise, how about some more titanium, frame lock knives. There hasn't been any "must haves" for me in the Benchmade line up for a while.0 -
Wonder if we will see a new SS blade steel used by BM in 2013? 0 -

Po, can you point me in the direction of that photo from the Vegas G4? I'd really like to see the straight razor concept. I'm going to buy a custom one, but if BM were to make one...I'd get it instead.
I have so many ideas but gonna keep them for myself, doubt BM would ever make them and plus, I may want to design and build my own, like other members here.
Has there ever been a tumbled finish 940, blade and handles?0 -

Fastjan,
I think that you are absolutely correct, but really I started this tread for all of us to have some fun and let our imaginations go a little wild..
I am sure that they will surprise a lot of people with what is coming up and we will all know in just over a month, then we will see what the last 2 years of R&D and them looking at the markets trends will come up with...

Do you think they will come up with anything as bizarre as the Bedlam? Did I say bizarre? I meant unique...yes, that's it...unique.quote:WDW wrote...I am sure that they will surprise a lot of people with what is coming up and we will all know in just over a month, then we will see what the last 2 years of R&D and them looking at the markets trends will come up with...
