I really like those scales. I wouldn't mind seeing that CF on a 943-1.

Can't believe they dropped the ball AGAIN with the silver axis lock. Went to order one and luckily saw that first

Features: DLC coated M390 super premium stainless steel blade. Red anodized aluminum thumb stud. AXIS locking mechanism. Red resin-infused carbon fiber handles. Grey PVD chromium nitride coated barrel spacers. DLC coated reversible, tip-up, deep- carry pocket clip

And a big silver axis lock out of the parts bin, other than that it would have been one I bought

I like the design of the carbon fiber handles. Red axis would have popped nicely!

At $323 (list), they couldn't have a black Axis???

@Benchmade -- Is this one officially "940DLC-1802" or "940-1802"? I see both on the SMKW website.

I was under the impression that exclusive runs are configured by request from the dealer, in this case SMKW. Maybe Jason could shed some light on that.

No wonder Jason said he liked it.

    -1802

So TDOGG, Bill Hammer and other 940 lovers are getting two limited editions this year? Nice.

Sorry man...what is your underlying question?

Just a response to "Benchmade dropped the ball" regarding silver axis lock.

Me, too. Regardless, red thumb-studs, gray DLC standoffs, black scale screws...and satin Axis? It's not a huge deal, but still not the most cohesive choice.

None announced yet, but with this being -1802 there should be a -1801 out there. Last year’s limited edition grips had the -1702 come out before the -1701. Both were M390 just with different handles and barrel spacers. I am hoping that the 940-1801 sticks with the M390, but uncoated. Only Jason knows, I guess.

Looking forward to seeing both at Blade in your bags o’ 940s.

Ahhh gotcha. Yes, they are configured by the dealers. I don't like black oxide on my studs, anyways.

The silver axis lock looks so out of place, very nice otherwise.

Red. Ugly. So-called “deep carry” clip can, at least, be replaced with a better clip. Scales look great. If it was a 943 shape, I’d buy it in a heartbeat, despite the redness. Oh well. Can’t make everybody 100% happy. It’s be nice, however, if they’d throw the 943 fans a bone someday....

I just added/updated a couple of real world photos to the first page of this thread.
    Check ‘em out.

    Thanks, Marty.

Aaaand they make the silver Axis look even more out of place than in the promo pics.
Even so, to quote Redwood25, "If it were a 943 (blade), I'd buy it in a heartbeat." But not this 940.

Pics do look nice. As mentioned, there are things about this knife I like, and that I'm not crazy about (943 PLEASE!!!!!!!!).
But seriously? Not at this price point. Seriously. Not.

I'd still have to buy one if it were a 943, as much b**ching as I've done.

I’m personally on the fence about this one.
    It’s a cool knife.
    But it’s still a 940.
I’m not sure this will be the one to sway me.
On the other hand, these premium dealer exclusives are pretty awesome lately.

Marketing it as a limited edition. But no real answers.
