Help With 477-1
Hello All,
I'm not sure the best place to post this, so I'm starting here. If I need correction, I welcome the guidance.
I have de-assisted my Emissary by removing the spring. I love the knife, it's a great light-weight carry, but I feel that nothing improves on the Axis action.
As it stands now, my Emissary works pretty well without its assisted action, but I can't seem to pinpoint a fine-tuning issue. The action is great one minute, but the next time I open it, it's stiff and doesn't close one-handed, which is kind of the point of the whole project. I suspect that I didn't put it back together the right way.
I'm wondering if anyone here would be able or willing to help get it working again, the way I imagine it can. When the action gets stiff, if I move the blade laterally, in the open position, the next time I open it, it's as smooth as butter. But then the cycle repeats...
I'm hoping someone who is handy with such things could 'tune' it to work well as a manual Axis knife, so I could really enjoy using it again. I'm willing to compensate for a reasonable dollar amount, to someone I perceive as a reputable forum member.
I'm open to suggestions, I appreciate any wisdom from you folks.
I have high hopes that this can be a useable EDC knife for me! Let me know.
Thank you,
Eric

/|\ Eric, I'd trust both DOAT & Keyman to fix it, but before I ship it off I'd open it up myself & clean it out. I thinking it is a loose piece of dirt in there moves around. Sometimes it is out of the way others times it is not. Good luck & let us know when you get it squared a way what it was.
Oh, you should try blasting it out with a can of "spare air" before taking it apart ( trick MFL passed on to me)0 -
That's very sensible, Bill, thank you. I'll do it. 0 -
I saw in some other forum that Jimmy has mentioned to advise against it as following. quote:Of course I have to say don't do it as it will void your warranty. Also from an service standpoint the 470 has its own set of specially designed tools that we use on them. So be careful if you decide to give it a go. Of all of our current models the 470 and the 580/585 series are the most difficult from a Product Services (Our warranty and Lifesharp department) side of things in regards to disassembly, assembly, and tuning.

Also, Keyman has mentioned before that AXIS lock bar needs modified 1/4" spanner bit (?) to disassemble.
AXIS lock spring seems very thin IMO.0 -
I'm glad to report that I decided to save myself the frustration and reach out to DOAT. He reassembled the knife without the spring, and somehow was able to make it come together as I had not been able. I'm now the very happy owner of a manual Emissary, and I love it.
Many thanks to DOAT, and for everyone's kind advice.0 -
