Rit dye and... Twill G10?
I know several of you gentleman have experimented with Rit dye and G10, with some great successes, a few unexpected outcomes, and a couple of happy accidents.
I've seen some awesome color transformations, and some stuff that was almost impossible to believe (forest green g10 to maroon).
I've got a 210GG, a fantastic little Snody activator, with a beautiful handle material, reminiscent of carbon fiber. But it's actually a twill G10. Very difficult to find info on this scale material, but "Grey Fleck G10" is the description from BM way back when the knife was released. There have been a few debates referring to it as Carbon Fiber, but it is not that, I can assure you. (run a google image search for "viper Dan 2 silver G10" for the only thing close to it I've seen, besides "Ti-G10", which it is not either)
Anyway, I have a larger, 201 Activator+ that I've been wanting to make scales for, and I'd love to get as close to the 210GG as possible. No amount of searching has yielded any results, but then tonight, after a few barley sodas, I had an idea....
What if I dyed some silver twill G10 a bit darker?!
I've seen silver, green, gold and blue twill all manufactured. But with some Rit, maybe there could be red, (Loonybin could have a really cool rift) purple, maroon Anyone ever heard of, or tried dying twill G10? Or does anyone have some scrap pieces, or left over cuts they'd be willing to donate for testing?

Also, Sre, very excited to see your TiCF project.

My cubicle partner got excited by this idea on my last day at Benchmade. She said that she has used this (Rit) dye a lot (quilter) and tells me it is fantastically stable...my first thoughts were of some horrible reddish pink dye coming off on the pocket of my slacks. I been told this is not the case with Rit...so now I'm totally curious to see some experimental results. 0 -
I don't know why the Rit won't work on twill G10, but I've never experimented with it. Keyman or DOAT would have more access to twill G10 to experiment with.
The key to using Rit is to remember that the underlying color will affect your final result. The gray/black G10 used on the Rift has a cool hue to it (blue end of the light spectrum is "cool" red end of the spectrum is "warm"), so it makes the Cherry Red dye look like the maroon on the 730 Ares. You will want to use it in a very concentrated solution. I usually use a full bottle of liquid dye with 1 quart of water and some salt.

/|\ LB your like Joseph in the Old Testament, he had a coat of many colors & you have Rifts of many colors 0 -
If/when you do get around to boiling the scales, be sure to keep a close eye on the pot.

I think dying silver twill should come out amazing.
