556-1 blade marking question...
I got my Pre-production 556-1 #301 today, and I really like it...
BM did a great job on this knife. Very nicely finished, the blade almost swings closed on its own, no blade play, and the blade is perfectly centered. I really like the color combination.
The grind is very even, although it has a very rough finish, and it does have a very slight wire edge.
My question is, the CPM-20CV on the blade is almost totally impossible to read.
If I hold it just right, and get the light perfect, I can kinda make out what it says.
If I didn't already know what it says, I'm not sure I would be able to tell..
I had my wife look at it too, and she couldn't tell what it says. All of the rest of the markings are fine.
Is this normal on the pre-production versions ?

It is normal in that yours is no different than any other 556-1 that I have seen. But I can't think of any previous models where they made it that small.
It's almost as if they were ashamed of it like they were writing elmax or 8Cr13MoV. I like discrete and I'm glad it's not too prominent, but it would be nice if it was big enough to read.0 -

LOL. It certainly is small... It wouldn't be quite so bad if the lettering was just a little darker.
The pictures I have seen of the 551's, the lettering appears to be quite a bit darker.
It's not a crisis, but it would be nice to be able to read it ...0 -
If they used M390, they'd used a bigger font in bold
