Griptilian question

Hey guys I'm trying to decide on a griptilian. I'm looking at getting a Doug Ritter large griptilian. There is a discrepancy with the weights from what I can see on several online dealers. I've handled a regular drop point before and like the weight of it. Knifeworks has it listed at 3.25 and the ritter at 3.82. Benchmade list the drop point at 3.88. Knifecenter also has the drop point at 3.25. I was hoping someone on here had one or both and could maybe drop them on the scale and we could see what the actual weight was and if the two are virtually the same weight or not. I may not get the ritter if it a half ounce heavier. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have either, but I doubt you would even notice the difference.

I have both a regular blade and a Ritter blade Grip. Seriously, if you want the Ritter, just get it. I didn't know until I read your post that there was even a weight difference between the two. Never thought about it. Completely unnoticeable.

Get the Ritter (now in M390). It is a super slicer and great blade geometry. Mine are in Wilkins AL scales or I would weigh it for you. I doubt you would notice the weight difference, and in any case the Ritter is so great I would take it over the regular grip regardless of weight. I am huge small Ritter grip fan. My Ritters out number my regular grips 4 to 1.

Then what possible difference could it make whether the Ritter is three tenths of an ounce or five tenths heavier?

I've handled both the regular Grip and the Ritter, and there is NO difference in the weight. If you can't tell the difference without a scale, there's no difference.

I like that flat Ritter grind when slicin apples, tomatoes, steak, cantaloupe, w2 envelopes etc.

So that grind feature is worth choosing it...I think.

Listen yo these forumites as they will not lead you astray, I have learned a lot by just reading the past posts. I agree with the notion you will not notice the difference. I have 4 grips and handled the Ritter and agree I could not tell a significant difference in the weight of each. Like Po said, even if there is a tenth-half oz difference in same size knife you will not notice it when you do not have the other to compare on you. Just get it is mho.

They are quite different when you get them in your hand. The Grip is heavier and thicker. Probably mostly used in somewhat heavier tasks. The 940 imo is more of a gentleman's folder...even though some guys use them just as hard as they would a grip. The smaller diameter handle on the 940 would make it hard to use very long in a work situation without some hand fatigue. The smaller handle on the 940 makes it so you can carry it in office situations in dress pants and you'll have a lot of knife without much weight pulling on your pocket. DJ, one of our forum members carries a 940 to work almost every day on a job supervising roofing crews, so his gets a workout with no problem.

I have about 10 full sized Griptilians and two 940-1's

I agree with Fastjan, the Grip & 94Xs are different. They arguably Benchmade's two best sellers
I am big fan of the 940 & likly 50 94Xs vs. zero Gips.
My Grip inventory may change with the up grade in handle materials

Also, upcoming 55x-1 series of New Griptilian will have gray G10 (Which I am sure you can dye with RIT) and has 20CV, which is very close to performance to M390.

I can't wait for 550-1 without "first production" laser doodle.
