Not so nice blade grind, opinions?
It has been a little while since I got this 907 from a reputable authorized online dealer and from day 1 the grind has been bugging me. I know I can try to re-profile it myself but was wondering if I could make a warranty claim and have BKC fix or replace the blade as they see fit. Pics speak for themselves hopefully you are able to see what I am talking about.

Is your concern that the edge is a little high? These are done by hand so every one is a little different. I don't know that they would warranty it as there is nothing really "wrong" with it. You would have had better luck returning it to the place you bought it from. However, you could certainly contact BM and see what they say. 0 -
Yep, High is my complaint. Really was no option returning it as I think it was a closeout deal. I understand that they are all done by hand but was surprised as I never had a Benchmade with this high of a grind (just on the one side even).
Thanks for you input JRaysp. I will likely let it be as it is certainly still functional.0 -
The grind & bevel look fine to me although I get what you are saying.
Production knives do have some variation within this area and it's mainly going to be cosmetic than functional. More than likely, the hand sharpening resulted in a slightly lower angle, which happens sometimes. You will probably find it cuts better with the current bevel set on it.
I often go to 30 degree angles on Benchmades with a true 100% even bevel to maximize the cutting performance. The edge itself is noticeably wider, and wider at the tip area than the straight portions due to the actual thickness of the blade itself varying and the factory grind consequently varying the angle so that the bevel width itself is even (this is extremely common on folding knives for cosmetic purposes, but can make sharpening more of a pain and doesn't always perform as well IMO.)
Once the angle gets taken lower and a 100% even angle applied, most folding knives will have characteristics of longer and varying width similar to this ZT

If the side is uneven, the best way to make them even is to either progressively sharpen the knife with normal usage using a little more time spent on the shorter side (using the exact angle of the longer side) to progressively even, or reprofile both sides to an angle that is as low or lower than the longer side at its lowest point. The latter has the plus that the thinner angle will make the knife a seriously mean cutter, and applying a 100% even angle will generally be easier to upkeep and result in all of the knife having even cutting properties (versus a varying angle resulting in the tip area generally not having push-cut and sawing with microserration cutting capabilities like that of the straight portions of the blade).0 -
Thanks. I see what you mean about the grind on the 0560. Now I wanna know where to get a blue scale like that for my 0560. 0 -

BladeForums has a lot of info on who makes custom scales...quite a few do. I've gotten my ZT scales from The Preacher and they are hella awesome.0
