My first Benchmade. 8600 Auto Bedlam
Greetings everyone. I got my first Benchmade in the mail Friday and I am blown away at the quality.
The axis lock is flawless and there is zero blade play. The fit and finish is perfect and the blade centering is spot on. I honestly cannot find any faults with this knife other than it needed a very, very small tuning of the factory edge.

Thanks for posting this- I've often wondered about the manual version, but was turned off by a number of not-great reviews. Glad it's awesome for ya!
Does the axis mechanism fire the blade open, or do you push the thumb stud to make it open, and how's the opening speed/strength?
Thanks!0 -
The axis lock releases the blade. The blade has the usual twist spring at the pivot like other auto's. Difference in the auto/manual blade is the auto blade has a hook on the bottom that latches with the axis bar when closed.
The blade fires with just enough kick to get a solid lockup. With a blade this large you would not want too much power as it would jump out of your hand.
Other than being a very large knife (which is obvious) I don't know why anyone would be turned off by this knife.0 -

interesting choice for first benchmade...glad you like it! 0 -
I'd call that diving into the deep end of the Benchmade pool. Excellent choice. In terms of attitude, arguably the most Balisong folder in the Benchmade line. 0 -
Now you need the Fixed Bedlam to go with it. 0 -
I just got my manual Bedlam yesterday. I really like it, the blade is slightly off centered but it has no play whatsoever. I really like the Volli style handle texture as well. I'm impressed with the build quality of this thing. 0
