Unexpected Benchmade Sightings
Where is the most unexpected place you have seen a Benchmade?
Last night I went to a very high end restaurant (11 courses, fixed price at $280 a head) in the District for a celebration. All the waiters and waitresses are dressed very nicely, but halfway through the meal I notice one of the waiters has a well worn Benchmade clip on one of his pockets. I asked him if he has a Benchmade in his pocket and he looks sheepishly at me and says "How do you know what a Benchmade is?" My wife tells them, "Oh, he has a couple hundred of them that is how I recognized it, too." So he pulls out a blue handled mini-griptilian. One of the waitresses sees this and says, "Oh I carry the big one and pulls out a griptilian." All four of us start laughing and talk knives for a couple minutes. Really made the meal for me (I think my wife preferred the foie gras).

To find Benchmades in the location of my story was not unexpected at all, but the circumstances of the "sightings" I will never forget.
My teacher, Mangisursuro Mike Inay, passed away tragically in 2000. Funeral service was held at a local Catholic Church. It was standing room only, about 500 people, more or less formally dressed for the sad occasion. Suro Jason Inay, was giving the eulogy. Suddenly, I'm not sure what inspired him, as was our tradition when least expected, Suro yelled, "Draw!". At least half those in attendance instantly drew knives and held them aloft. Most of them were AFCKs, 975s, and 710s. Hehe...a church full of knife fighters. I cannot imagine what the priest must have thought of that. I will never forget...0 -
