Oh man, I really don't need another 710, but that's hard, this being one of my favorites. Long as they're still around in a few months I'll probably go ahead and get one too.

    OK Joe,

Now repeat after me "Oh Get Ye Behind Oh Satin" and see if that works to stop you from buying one now...ROLMAO

Mine should be home either tomorrow or Saturday. Problem is, I'm over 200 miles away with family visiting! It will make for a nice homecoming though! Can't wait to try it out.

The fridge - always the best place for new kitty litter. Keeps kitty from making it stinky!

Does this have the rounded spine that the M390 version has?

I'm curious about that as well. Mine comes tomorrow, so I'll let you know then if no one else has yet.

Thanks to this thread I just ordered a 710-3. I've got other M4 blades but this will be my first 710 so I'm a little excited to get it in hand!

You're gonna love it. I got mine in a week or so ago. I've been using it every day. I love the ergo's of the grip. The blade is a nice size and works great for EDC. And, the m4 steel is what I really LOVE! That steel holds an edge extremely well, and has been pretty easy for me to sharpen. When sharp it has a great bite to it. I've used m4 blades in the kitchen, in the yard, in the field, in the garden, and I absolutely love the way it cuts and just plain works well.

I edited to add that I much prefer m4 steel to m390 or other stainless steels. M4 steel is excellent, plain and simple.

You like M4 more than M390 because..? I don't have much experience with either steels so I am interested in your opinion.

Because m390 has been more difficult for me to sharpen. M390 also does not hold it's edge as well as m4, at least not for me. Also, even though I had my 730-1203 Ares arm shaving sharp it didn't want to cut deer and hog hair very well. Why, I don't know. I didn't get through the skinning of one deer with it before it dulled. My m4 blades, however, took over and did quite well. My D2 blades did better than my Ares with m390 during skinning operations on hogs and deer. Perhaps it was blade geometry. I don't know. The m390 on my Military and PM2 does much better than the m390 I have from BM. I don't know why. But, my m4 blades from both companies do considerably better for me than the m390 from either company.

And, it's the same in the garden and yard. I use my knives to trim weeds, saplings and vines from my fence lines. Some of these are very woody and tough. The m4 goes right through them, m390 not so much. The m390 stays pretty longer, but for working I'll take m4 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Thanks mley1, for the detailed and very helpful explanation. I value people's observations and insights from actually using the two steels in daily life. Thumb up.

    First post.

Got mine yesterday (thanks KW). A few quick and dirty snaps below (excuse the poor quality).

The D2 710 looks great in pics, though I suspected it would be too big for me, but when I saw the limited 710, I decided to get it anyway...

... and since I live offshore and was up for a minimum postage fee, I tossed a 707 into the mix too, enabling me to have a smaller 710 "look-alike". I would have preferred the 707 had G10 scales like were on the 705, but in real life the aluminium is great.

Big difference in size and weight between the two knives - the 710 is solid!

The standoffs are fluted, I thought they would be straight cylinders. Maybe that is a nice design touch that some will appreciate?

    Rob.
