Cerakote 585
Hey guys! I have a mini barrage 585 that i love!
But, I just cant leave well enough alone and have been throwing the idea of Cerakoting the liners, lock mechanism, and a few other various internals.
First question, has anyone done this? Any experiences, good, bad?
I am slightly concerned about the thickness of the coat. If properly applied it should be ~ 0.001" thick, im concerned that this added thickness multiplied by four for the locking area will bump the tolerances too far out of spec and keep it from working properly.
I will take the calipers to it momentarily and find out, but Figured I would get on the forum and ask around, maybe hear of some cool ideas!

You should be OK. FIrst, who cares about the side facing scales? Second, I would recommend you sand and polish washer contact points on the inner part of the liner for smoother operation, as you do that .001" (or even more) of ceracote will be gone anyway and your knife will be good to go

OOPS, wait a second, didnt realize you were talking about AXIS assist there... I strongly dont recommend you disassembling that knife, unless you plan on making it a manual folder. Those can be a real bitch to put back together, just ask those who've tried... 0 -
Haha, i dont think I can express the humor that just occurred....
I read your second post directly after looking at the small pile of parts I have from disassembling the knife. But, I am glad I did, I found a few places in the liner that have some small dots of rust developingThe knife occasionally gets wet during a rinse here and there, but I do my best to dry it out the best I can. Seems the internal cavities may be holding the moisture. I live in AZ, not like its a humid place!

Thanks, cool vid! I am not too worried about getting it back together
The bit of rust does worry me though...0 -
Also, it seems that my clip is magnetic.... which is odd.
Found out that my buddies 3550 has a magnetic blade....0 -
Got it back together no problem
Gotta love the internals of these knives...Leaps and bounds nicer than the internals of the SOG I just had appart
