Mini Grip Off Center
I just bought a new Ritter Mini Grip with M390 steel and the blade when closed is so off center that it almost touches the scale, like less than the width of a hair. I can actually hear the blade rub during opening if I listen closely. Is this fixable and/or is this indicative of Benchmade Mini Grips? I have a friend who just got one the same day I did and he says his is perfectly centered. Do I need to have this looked at? Thanks.

I learn by hands on much better than reading. I opened the blade while putting pressure on the side that it was closer to. It seemed to center it but after a couple times of deploying the blade it seemed to lose it center again...
That isn't going to help.
There are many things that can cause centering issues and they can differ from knife models.
The thing that I do that works best is tighten the pivot screw then loosen the handle screws about 1/4, including the blade stop screw if your knife has one. Then take a popsicle stick or paper q-tip body and wedge it between the blade and the liner it tends to favor. Then tighten the handle screws and then remove the wegde. After that you can loosen the pivot screw to its original function. This has worked for about 80% of the Knives I've had centering issues with. Wish it was 100% but not all knives are the same.
I think of the concept as trying to sharpen a pencil. If it's only getting sharp on one side you don't recalibrate the sharpener, you just move the pencil so that the alignment is centered.0 -
Boinkman,
Thanks for the suggestion. My 950 has had centering issues since I bought it, and the black coating has worn off the blade at the point where blade touches liner upon opening. I tried the aforementioned technique of applying pressure to open blade, to no avail. The 950 just seems to ignore my efforts, very solid. Anyway, I'm gonna try your way.0 -

My 950BK-1 was a bit off center as well. I have used the method Jason has suggested and now it is well on center.0 -

If you search past posts for centering, you'll find some more aggressive solutions that also work applying the same principle that I mentioned. Lighting has a good post.0 -

Thanks to you both, Boink and MF! What I've really been contemplating is sending my 950 in, and simply paying to change the blade..over time I've realized I'm not really fond of the black blade, or serrated edge. Nice to have the option of switching it out..0 -
