Benchmade Knives with Titanium Parts
I was looking at a Benchmade Knife with Titanium in it a little while ago and realized that it was not all that long ago that you could not have owned one.
Titanium was classified as a restricted or strategic metal for National Security and not available for civilian use.
My how things have changed and I thought that it was an interesting piece of trivia...

I really don't think it was the material itself, but rather the quantity that was being purchased. That and the cost of the material has come way down over the last few years.
After all, BM has been using Ti for many years now. I have 15 year old 910's that have full Titanium liners.0 -

Yep it was the actual Material, it was a hang over from the cold war and it originally came out of Russia.
Even the CIA had to buy it via some clandestine method to get enough to build the Black Bird Spy Plane, it really does have one of those strange histories.
Our next knife material is probably being tested at Area-51 right now and I do not think it's Alien...LOL0 -
I remember one of the first titanium golf clubs, and it was made from decommissioned Russian missiles. Imagine how much more cool stuff we could have out of titanium if the CIA had let us know the Cold War was over in the late 70's? 0 -

I wonder what they have now that is incredibly cool, just sitting around being used or tested by the Military until they are done with it and we get use of it.
Another question is was there ever really a Cold War...LOL0
