Tough decision, it's a toss up between several for me and they are very differant so I guess I am undecided.

Presently awaiting the arrival of a 940BK. This will be my first in the 94X series. AS good as the 940 is, I hear that the 940-1 is exceptional.

No problem. I'm glad you like it.

My EDC rotation involves my 943 & 551 wilkins M4.

I've had a 943 for about ten years and it is great but the drop point makes the sheeple cringe. The reverse tanto shape of the 940 is much less spooky.

An 806 D2 and a reground 760 lfti usually get the lion share of my carry time, along with some customs, mid techs and Striders. The 940-1 has found a sweet spot in my pocket. Always liked the 940 design, never cared for the green/purple combo.

Been carrying the 940-1 since they came out. It gives my 940D2CF & 941D3CF rest after EDC them for years. Like clam shell of 940D3CF better but it was limited edition, where 940-1 is a regular old factory (that just blows away most custom made knives)

Of the EDC size knives, the 531 is my favorite, specifically the 531-132. The 525 and 586 are co-favorites, of course.

Still, when I think about a knife I would really want to carry every day, it would be a 551 Grip, an AFCK, or 581 Barrage.

My perfect edc would be a M390 or s90v Rift with red/black G10 scales.

However, after the 940-1 arrives on Monday, my opinion may change and the Rift be relegated to weekend and outdoors carry...

nah, who am I kidding? The Rift wins.

I have a 943 that I love to carry. I like the 940 blade, but not the green scales (just personal preference). I'd immediately purchase another if I could get the black handle of the 943 and the blade of the 940.

You read my mind. However finally couldn't wait for black 940 and settled for 940-1.. it pairs perfectly with 943

If I'm not mistaken, the 940-1 is considerably more expensive. Part of the appeal of the 943 is the price. I was hoping to keep it tight around there.

I don't know, my 943 is over 10yrs old and carried every day, I've had to baton with it in a pinch and it has seen lots of use, yet it still functions like brand new. I think as long as you don't loose them, benchmades are great value even at steep entry price. And yes while 940-1 is 80 dollars more, it does take the 940 to a whole new level in terms of feel.

M 940 with black handle was the 942 no longer made. I like pairing the 940-1 with a 943 and their both so light the weight of the two together a lot of times is less than carrying one other knife. Regards Bill

Okay, so now I think the 940-1 and 484-1 must be the absolute best "EDC" knives in Benchmades model line.

I include the 940-1 because so many other people love it, and I admit its functional excellence, even though I don't prefer it.

I just received my first 484, and I really love it. Excellent production quality, materials, and ergonomics, excellent blade grind. A size right on the line between "EDC" and full size.

So MY top "EDC" - stuff I own and use are:

    484
    525
    531
    585/586

Someone mentioned the 690, and I would heartily second that recommendation if it were still in production. I still carry mine when I do go to the office for work. They are superb, even if they are liner locks.

Another testimonial to the surprising durability of the 94X!

If you are looking for EDC knives in current production, two come to mind that are very easy to carry.

The 485 is a little on the small and dressy side. It works well in an office or general around town environment. It's as close to the retired 707 as you can get.

The 903 is a larger knife but thinner than the 484. After you defang the G10, it's a great EDC, almost as nice as the now retired 14210.

An 806 carbon fiber scaled knife with a 3.5" blade would top my 940-1... otherwise I'm good

Ah, the Midi-AFCK! Many is the time that was discussed back in the day. I was one who always wanted Midi models between the standard and minis.

I have a custom knifemaker lined up to do the necessary mods on one of my 806-1101s to create such a knife. I drew up the plans and worked out all of the details. My other projects keep getting priority, though.

That should work out well. Back in the
90s, Benchmade actually sent me a couple of prototype AFCKs to evaluate, one was a steel I don't remember, the other was a steel called M2.
    Big Grin

In my evaluations, I broke the tip off of one of the knives - not the M-2 one.
    Big Grin
So I reshaped the tip - it gave the blade more belly up front - and I sawed off about a half inch from the butt of the handle that was no longer needed. It looked great.

MFL those paracord fobs look like Seahawks colors!
Like the pics shows how much blade to handle ratio the Rift has over others
