Help
Should I keep my Benchmade 2750 open at night so that the spring mechanism for the Auto does not wear out?

Always heard that springs fatigue through cycling rather than compression state. 0 -
You shouldn't even worry about it, I had a daily user that I kept closed and went 8 years until spring failure.... Also had the same model fail after the 5th time opening.... It's a luck of the draw I say! 0 -
Ive heard theres just as much tension opened as closed.
Makes sense to me. think about it.0 -
If BKC intended for you to store it in an opened state while not in use and not in carry they would have instructed you to do so in the Owners Manual. Besides I am sure that spring failure under normal use is covered by BKC's awesome Product Warranty. 0 -
Awesome yeah they are pretty thorough in their instruction manual and catalog so thanks for the heads up. I've asked like three different forums and you were the first to respond so props to you my friend. 0 -
The typical failure mode for torsion springs (unless they are somehow significantly overstressed) is from fatigue due to cycling the spring between two energy states. At some point, all springs fail due to opening and closing the knife. It's just a matter of the number of cycles before failure.
I can't imagine that leaving the knife open will really make much of a difference.
If it does happen to fail, our Product Services folks will take care of it for you!0 -
