Archer, I'm glad you are getting to know your 950 Rift again. I'd better carry one today just to get back in the groove.

I pulled my 950 out last week and have been carrying it. It is a great knife. I much prefer it to the 940

    Eeker

I hear ya though. The only Rift I had was the forum Rift and I did like the size. However, I couldnt bring myself to carry that fine of a knife. Maybe a Rift in M390 would see some pocket time.

that would be a fine knife. I actually prefer the 950 to the 810 as well. a 950 done up like the KW 810 would be quite nice. I know Loonybin has been after an M390 Rift for awhile now.

I could never carry my forum 950 either... it just sits there in the safe.

Yea I like the Rift's size better for EDC then the 810 too.

I wonder if we will ever see a M390 Rift. Man that would be a fine knife. With some really grippy G10 like the 810 has too. Mmmmmm.

Quite right, different! Maybe if enough of us petition Roger, he'll go to bat for us. Or maybe if one of us bribes MCM enough, he'll go to bat for us as well...
    Cool

Well I've never been real excited about such a venture as an m390 rift but after carrying mine again for a week. I would definitely rather have that then the 810. It's pretty much a perfect size of carry knife.

I love the Rift mine has the Contego deep carry pocket clip. IMO it should have had it from the start. Had to do some searching to find an unused plain edge BK1 blade with the layered G10.

Its definitely a slicer. I gave my production rift up to a buddy that was deployed and he praised its abilities. I sold my forum rift awhile ago because I was struggling to pay bills.

It is definitely a slicer blade, but thanks to reverse American Tanto (Osborne Reverse Tanto) that possesses relatively thick spine toward the tip, it would make very strong thrust cutter as well.

I hope BKC can come up with M390 or S110V

I must say I really like Rift. I like the size performance in both blade and handle length. Knife geometry is very useful in slice cut and thrust cut if needed.

I still have few points I would like to add as my wish list of improvement to the RIFT model, if Benchmade folks would consider 3 points.

    May be calling 950-2 ??

    * Small jimping a la 940: May be something like 940, but not the extent of 810. I would like to keep my palm skin.

    * Cross drill on frame: Why is this not done like on most of the metal frame models? (710,810,58X,275,74X etc.)

    * M390 steel blade: This would be nice addition to Rift. I don't dislike 154CM, and on 950-2 would be more cost performance wise better off with CPM-154. Certainly M390 is more wear and corrosion resistant.

    Thank you!

I've carrying my Rift for the past week and I just can't get enough of this perfectly designed, all around great EDC knife.

It's been used for everything from kitchen duties to cutting wood and gardening detail including cutting some very tough tubing.

It's remarkably comforatble to work with, slices amazingly well and regardless of the lack of respect 154 steel recieves held it's edge a lot better than given credit for, I would even say the differance between 154 and the other super, duper steels is not all that dramatic.

    That's a clean 615. Here's what I think of them:

Best: Best blade shape...at least in my top 5.
    Worst: Worst clip...too flimsy.

Best: Best feeling handle in the hand.
Worst: Worst feeling handle in the pocket.

All in all, I have two and wouldn't part with either one...and they stay hard to find.

I agree 950 is super EDC for me as well. Regarding 154CM, please don't get me wrong as disliking it from my desier in wanting better steel in same model. As I have stated about Rift needs 2 points of improvement IMHO.

I want to have it both. I am going to get 940-1 in S90V because I already have 940 in S30V. Better yet, I wish BKC start using CPM-154. It is Crusible made (made in USA) and adopted powder alloy technology.

As you know, CPM makes 154 to be more wear and corrosion resistant, tougher, yet easy to re-sharpen.

Yep. After doing an acid etch and stonewash job on my son's Rift, I'm really missing mine. I'm almost torn between a 32 Morpho and a Rift. I don't own a balisong yet, but I'm noticing the absence of the 950 in my pocket.

I wouldn't say it's a lack of respect for 154CM at all. It's a great steel, but such an awesome knife deserves a great upgrade, just like the Contego got. The only thing in my mind that the Contego needed to be perfect was M390 so we could have M4 performance in a satin finish stainless blade, and the Rift only needs M390 to be perfect -- it's the difference between an awesome knife and the perfect knife.
