Considering they wanted over $400 for their set in 440C, I can imagine the price for a set in M390 will be astronomical.

    They'd be pricy for sure..

All I really need is an 8" Chef Knife.. I've already found a perfect one in M390
    Wink

I'd like BKC to make one though..

+1 I would love an updated Chef's knife. I've tried a few times to win the previous models but no luck.

Just from a practical distribution standpoint, the kitchen knives have to be a real pain in the rear for Benchmade. They put their knives in REI, sporting goods stores, gun shops, and knife speciality shops and have built those relationships over the years. For kitchen knives they would have to get into our la table, williams-sonoma, and independent kitchen shops. They would have to develop a completely new distribution network and fight with the wusthofs, globals, henckels, and other big kitchen knife names that people in the culinary world know and trust. It would be a tough row to hoe.

Maybe sets of steak knives would be an easier way for them to break into that market. Sell them at cost to a small high end steakhouse chain and sell them on the web. See if the steak knives catch on.

Of course, if they do a scimitar blade shape, Benchmade could sell them as a FIXED BEDLAM to some customers and kill two birds with one knife, as they don't say.

Or just offer a kitchen/chef knife set as Gold Class like the older versions lol

It would be great if they did, but at Blade 2015 one of the Benchmade guys said they were looking at kitchen knives again, but decided not to do them because of the issue with it being a completely different distribution channel and the size of the entrenched players.

Hopefully, they will look at it again. There is a major player near them in Oregon that does a line of domestically made pocketknives with one brand name, imported pocket knives with another brand name and then two brands of kitchen knives (I assume one is imported). I don't know if it is all one corporation or if they just distribute imported kitchen knives. Maybe multiple brands would be a route that wouldn't dilute the Benchmade name or get into the red class is imported issue, but true believers like us would know they were getting a Benchmade.

I found it from same maker as G3/G4. I too wish BKC makes in M390 as well.

I just today revived the steep country in pink for the wife to use in the kitchen. 5 minutes with my DMT and look out, this thing is sharp and the s30v I know will hold an edge. We have the gold kitchen set but the wife don't like that the 440 will not hold an edge as long as she likes that is now changed. I wish BM would do kitchen knives in s30v that would be Great.

That's surprising. What type of kitchen knives is she accustomed to using? Most of the kitchen knife companies use steel that is crap compared to 440C.

She only uses BM gold set for the past number of years.

It is not the problem of the steel, but how well they are heat treated. Also, one of those thin sheet metal knives are notoriously difficult to sharpen properly.

Yes the paring knife is the most used and the hardest to keep an edge on. The chef knives hold an edge much longer.

I may order one for the wife, thinner blade than the pink one she has.

As it turns out, handle thickness is as thick as Foray 698, a weight is close 4.09oz vs. 3.58 oz. Of cause blade is longer in 4.05" vs 3.24".

I think this is very nice blade for my Mrs. to use.
