515 Rant Kydex Sheath?
I have a drop point Rant that I love and would like another sheath to use. I was planning on making a Kydex sheath but was wondering if anyone had done this with the Rant and if the heat of the Kydex hurt the handle material. I would rather not mess up an awesome BM that they don't make anymore.

I kinda sorta made one for the 515
Long story short I had no clue what I was doing and trashed it, though handle material held up.
As stated though, had no clue what I was doing, temps might not have been as hot as they should have been?0 -
Easy to give advice when it isn't my knife, but I don't think the knife handle would have any problem with the 200-300 degree heat from Kydex. Kydex cools quickly also. Might want to wrap the handle with something, some thermotape, the type they use for air ducting? 0 -
Good idea on the tape! yeah the temps needed aren't bad. I didn't even think to look up a santoprene datasheet. Found them but I don't know exactly which blend BM uses. First one I clicked on shows a continuous temp resistance of 275F so I think well be good

I made one for my Rant 2 weeks ago although its the older style with the steel guard and rubber like handle, so it didn't contact as much of the rubber as it would with the newer rants, but the rubber part it did contact didn't have any problem with it (no melting or drying out or anything weird like that). I also made a kydex sheath for several Scrap yard knife works knives, that use a handle material called Respirene-C, that is very similar if not the exact same thing as the rubber material on the Rant and none of them had a problem with the temperatures either. 0 -
Thanks a lot for the input. That helps a lot. I won't be nervous now when I make it. Sweet looking scrapyard too! 0
