530 Testing [VIDEO]
We had a lot of requests to test the 530. It's not designed as a hard use knife, but boy does it like to slice. enjoy.

Thanks Peter/Tracy
I just picked up two of these without any previous handling experience so I’m happy with the results! Awesome little knife0 -

Yes, good fun! Even though the 530 is really not an extreme use knife, it was interesting to see it cut so well. After using ATS-34 and 154CM on Benchmade knives for fifteen years or more, I pretty much know what I'm getting. The edges take a beating and keep on cutting. Always have. What is different about the 530 is the double saber grind. Since it is a narrower grind, I don't expect it to be the slicer a 746 or a Volli are, but obviously the blade and edge are thin enough to give very good effecient cutting. Very informative to see that demonstrated when I imagine most 530 owners don't put that kind of stress on their knives.
It has been very nice to see the 530 allowed to show its true potential with the recent carbon fiber and G-10 LEs. You didn't see a lot of talk around here until the LEs came out. I've been asking for an Axis dagger for years, completely discounting the 530, because of my perception of its insubstantial nature. Now with the premium handles, the 530 has really become a jewel.
Cheers!0 -
Another cool vid.
I can't get enough of these.
I like the extra cut tests.
I'd like to see you do an elapsed video showing how long it taken from sharp all the way to dull and see all it cuts.
I tend to not ever let knives get dull but I also think lots of us sharpen way before its needed.0 -
My REI 530 will be going to work when it gets here Tuesday, I feel bad that I have not put my regular 530 to more rigorous use. 0 -
lol nice staches 0 -

Now all we need is some anodized Ti scales with CF inserts on a 530 - that would be crazy cool
I don’t expect this knife to be able to pry, chop, and take extreme abuse - but it is a great, light-weight backup EDC (I don’t do those things with my EDC’s anyways so no worries..) I also love how thin the blade is.. Basically what Peter said, like a pocket razor

Ditto ........ theres a proper tool for every job.
In any so called survival situation , you use whats on hand no matter what.
The 530 would be my fancy going out knife.
Iam putting a Titanium pocket clip on mine , deep carry

Thanks for the vid, I accidentally took mine to work one day and ended up cutting g through some woven wire, it was a tough cut but it DID do it. I got two now, the KW exclusive with carbon fiber scales and the grivory scaled one. Both are great little knives that I don't EDC, but do enjoy around the house.

Love the vids. I like the random stuff you cut as well. Those are all things we might find sitting around somewhere to cut too. Keep up the awesome vids! 0 -
Not to be off topic but Peter and Tracy make a nice work couple 0 -
Are you supposed to call them out like that? But if it is cool you kids go. 0 -
Best video yet. Thanks for showing where the failures occurred. It was good to see some other random but common things being cut like rubber hoses. 0 -

I use my blades primarily on an EDC level, mostly cutting food in my lunch, opening random stuff.. So this knife is perfect. This and the 940 make perfect little EDC's.0 -
For many years the 530 is specifically mentioned by a number of groups who hike to remote places for days at a time. It is not the only knife listed but always listed as zero factor in weight and 10 factor in utility to weight adjustment. It is suggested by the group (I camped with) that it be carried from a quick release tab on the outside of your back pack.
I forgot it was there for the first 2 days and used my Grip when needing a folder.0 -

I've seen it in outdoor/hiking magazines in the past, and the fact that the Grip & 530 are REI's top selling knife says something.. If I was a climber, I would want an ultra light knife on me, which makes that line-up perfect.
I almost forgot to pull it out of my jeans the other day before a wash, first time that's ever happened to me lol0 -

That would have been messy ..............LOL0 -

I used to EDC one before my grip, I had to cut some 1/8" woven wire with it at work, needless to say, it did the job flawlessly!
I have one of the new ones waiting at home with the g10 scales, I'm looking forward to getting off this hitch and going home to use it!
Thanks for the video Peter!0 -

People definitely underestimate the 53X's working potential.. Nice score
