625 Crawford Leopard
Hard to find: I just bought an older Crawford 625 from Neuro, and got it for it's place in my collection - probably will not use it, but what's cool is the blue box has the Clackamas labeling, and is dated to 2000.
These knives have only one liner and it's about 60% across.
Question is: do I send it in for adjusting, If they can fix it, or do I just leave it in-situ?

I can't tell from the pics: is the stop pin perfectly round, or is it an octagonal pin? If it's octagonal, then you can rotate it some until the knife locks up sooner. Might even work with the round pin, but I don't know. 0 -
The stop pin is round and I don't see how I would adjust it...I'm going to give CS a call to ask. Thanks though, P.! 0 -
I have a an emerson that locks about 55, still great, I think i should be good though 0 -
Nice clean example. Love the blunted pocket clip. Please let us know what CS has to say. Just purchased my first liner lock, and curious. I would not do a thing to that one, especially if its for the collection. 0 -
I did call CS and was told if I really wanted to could send it up, they could adjust the lock and make it better, but I'm thinking since this won't see use, and has been lightly handled, there's even history in that.
I know that might sound strange, but many of the pieces in my collection are the best examples of BKC production that I could find.
Even the box, for example, has a price of $89, and was sold by Ace Hardware...just try to find something like this Crawford in one of their stores now...

Too clarify, I bought the Crawford new from Ace Hardware and it has always had that wicked bend in the liner. I never put much thought to it since it a collection piece for me. 0 -

That's pretty cool, now I have even more of the story...and yes as far as collections go, this one's a keeper!

Nice knife and harder to come by all the time.
If I remember to, I'll go dig my 625 out tomorrow and see what the lock looks like. I've never been as much of a fan of the 625 as the 612. The 612 is one of my all time favorite Benchmades. It was the first Benchmade model I ever owned and I carried it for years until there was hardly a bit of coloring left on the aluminum scales.0 -
Hey Joe, It looks like you put a set of Keymans scales on it.

Again great minds think alike...I was thinking the same thing, except Keyman now has to reverse the process and mount solid ones instead...

I checked out my 625 and the lock doesn't go nearly as far as yours, Joe. Mine goes just so far as the whole liner is onto the blade tang. I flipped it a bunch of times to see if it changed and it was always the same. One of my 612s goes about as far as your 625, and the other one goes even a little farther.0 -
I am guessing that these early knives may have had a quite a bit of hand fitting done to certain parts and that's why they lock up differently. I am wondering if I swapped some blades around between them if they'd even work properly? 0 -
Nice catch Joe,
It's an excellent example and a nice addition to your collection my friend....

I just got mine out. It never got any use other than sitting in my safe for almost 20 years. It looks as if the lock covers most of the bottom of the blade area on mine

Seems like that might be pretty common on the 625/612s 0
