Opppsy, that is NOT what I would have expected at all.

I would have thought that they where a solid Sand G10, I am really shocked truly I am....

I made the same experience with the handles of my Marc Lee Glory Knife.

Is that in the product description?!

"Desert tan machined G10 handle with lanyard hole and full stainless liners"

    They don't mention paint...

Wow that does look like paint! With G10 you would see the layers.

I had read somewhere they are all black and the tan is painted.

    Don't know if
    this is the same stuff?

Geocyclist that's excellent research and it looks to me to be VERY disappointing indeed, my impression was that it was a heavy duty knife and the paint thing is NOT cool..
    Confused

does it really matter that much. paint chipping on the handle won't effect the performance of the knife

No it won't, but I honestly thought that they where solid Tan G10 Scales and I am just shocked that they are painted.

I think these painted Adamas would look pretty cool all beat/chipped/scratched/scraped. It would perfectly match a lot of the painted M4's that our fighting forces are using in the sandbox.

Is it paint, or Duracoat, or Cerakote?

    It's great!
Get enough of the paint chipped off and you'll have a tiger stripe type camo

This is definitely not a good thing! Paint is for houses and cars, not knives! The first time BM has done something that feels "off" to me...not exactly mis-leading, but definitely not right.

I don't like paint on knives either. especially one that's a hard work knife. There is one thing that paint will always do - chip.

Paint or no paint, the Adamas is one of the best knives BM put out in a long time, A LOT of knife for the money, I personally am willing to overlook the paint thing, besides some of the gear US troops carry in Iraq and Afghanistan is painted camo, it's good enough for them.

This is nothing new: check out some of the older Grip colors and the 710 M4-whatever. It doesn't bother me.

    again I'm not complaining

I might even get custom scales made. maybe green carbon fiber and then have on of the holes shaped into a shamrock

I have to say (with the greatest respect to you Trailboss) that it does surprise me, I would have honestly thought that they would not have been painted, you have obviously around Benchmades longer than I have and you have seen others.

I personally haven't and that is why I am shocked, especially as it's marketed as a "Rangers" involved design, just in my mind as an average consumer I would have naturally and did think that they where solid Sand Tan G10.

The Adamas in the top 5 of my next to buy list. I may think seriously about getting the black now. I love the way the tan looks with the black liners.

Not that chipping would bother me too much, but
1.) I expect more from BM, a premium knife maker.
2.) Why paint a good material like G10 that looks/feels good on it's own (and comes in colors).
3.) A $60 painted grip with cheap plastic scales is one thing, the Adamas is higher end.

I too would have thought it would have been a solid color product. I am really turned off by paint on knives. Actually though I am going to start using my tan 275 which has so far sat in it's box doing nothing. My idea is that once it's all chipped and peeling I will beadblast the scales to see how they look.

I think it should be listed as painted, I don't doubt the knifes ability... but painted clips are bad enough, painted scales... no thanks.

It strikes me as being more than paint. Cerakote, maybe? If so, that's not so bad, but i would advertise it as such. "Black Cerakoted blade and Tan Cerakoted handles".

    You exposed the truth.

The more important question is would Chuck Norris use a painted knife? I don't think so. First time he grips it, it would start chipping.

I doubt that G10 under the paint would last very long.

G10 is durable. It would confirm nicely to his hand but not squish like a banana. It would be like you or I griping a bar of clay.

Yeah Chuck....sorry, Mr. Norris could certainly do that to G10.

They are painted and it sucks. I am complaining.

I first discovered painted G10 when I went to sand down the edges of the LE Leopold Ares Coyote Tan scales. A little profanity leaked out that day.

Painted scales suck and have a lower longevity than the painted pocket clips.

I expect better from the best knife manufacturer in the world.

i have the 710M4 whatever with the OD green scales. they are "painted" and it was discussed at length then. the coating has been extremely durable and for a knife that i have used hard, the scales still look brand new. granted, i haven't sanded them though
