Sharpening with a ??
I figured I,d start a new thread on this ........
I have an edge pro and a paper wheel , but that doesnt seem to be quite it for me.
What Iam thinkin here is that I,d like to get a belt sander type grinder .....what ever its called. I seen the one they use at BM lifesharp service at a distance and it looked pretty good.
Does anyone know what there called or where to buy this type of machine ??
Any links or what ever to steer me in the right direction.
I love my edge pro , but I want something to just walk up to and turn on and sharpen away.
I know it,ll take practice but its something I think I can handle.

Its definitely easier to set up ......LOL
Theres to many variables here.
I like it better than the EP if your just maintaining an already sharp edge.
It gets-em sharp for sure.0 -

Thanks DJ,I didn't know it's from Spyderco.
The most important on EdgePro it's exactly angle between knife and stones
provided by EP system, here it is not a case even if you try to be exactly,
I think.0 -
I just know that it worked great for me.
I also have Mold Master stones for it also ,
havent used them yet , the stones it came with worked great.0 -

I am a traditionalist, which is to say I basically like 3 different stones and a leather strop. However, I have been sharpening knives as a hobby for about 30+ years. Over this time I have acquired many different sharpening systems. I have acquired these systems to speed up the process because all of my friends and sometimes people I do not even know bring me knives to sharpen. Other than the old style with 3 stones and a leather strop, I have to say that I have the Edge Master bench sander. Having said that, let me warn you, IT TAKES A VERY STEADY HAND! In addition you almost have to see into the future of what you want the profile to look like and be working towards that goal the entire time. With the stones you always have something providing a solid pressure against your blade. With the Edge Master, the belts do not provide that much back-pressure against your blade. It is very easy to tilt the blade in too far, and with the belt spinning so fast you can mess up a blade in a heartbeat. NOW, I LOVE MY EDGE MASTER BUT I MUST BE ABSOLUTELY CALM AND IN CONTROL OF MYSELF TO USE THIS SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY WITH BELTS LIKE 320 GRIT OR 600 GRIT. It is in my opinion the best, fast sharpening system on the market. It just takes practice and a steady hand. I know this was lengthy but I hope it was helpful 0 -
Finally just tried my diamond rods on the sharpmaker ......for the first time.
They worked great ..... granted using the sharpmaker , the key is to not let the knife get real dull in the first place.
But it made for a real toothy edge , then finished with the regular stones it comes with. Makes for a great edge ...... upon each use I looked in a magnifying glass to see what each stone did to the edge ........
I believe the key to the diamond stones is very light to no pressure .....it cuts just fine , I think the sharpmaker is a good invention.
Granted if a knife is super dull , I,ll break out the edge pro or if I want a purdy edge , I use the edge pro.
Just bored and wanted to post0 -
That's a great post, DJ. That's my favorite kind of post...one that allows us to learn about knives and sharpening.
Now that I'm done saying that, I'll return to posting jokes, songs & stuff about football.

I just put 'em on my Lansky and make 'em sharp, works every time. 0 -
Saw the pictures of those two modified blades. Are they New York City specials

I usually use a Lansky but lately I've been using a BM field sharpener (the combo edge one)for touch ups. It works way better than I expected.
I also used it to sharpen all my kitchen knives.0
