940 blade centering

I have a new 940 and the blade is within less than a hair from rubbing the scale. You could not slide a piece of paper between the blade and scale for sure. Is it something that BM will correct if I send it in?
Absolutely love the knife so I'd like it perfect.

Just sent one in for centering issues and it did take longer than I thought but was received in perfect condition.

That should be easily correctable at home if you have a good set of Torx bits and some patience.

Loosen off (not remove) the pivot and handle screws, push the bottom of one scale and the top of the opposite scale to pull the blade past centre on the opposite side of centre, then start tightening screws. Start with the handle screws and finish with the pivot.

Don't over tighten, just snug them up well. any final centering of the blade should be able to be done with the pivot screw.

If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, I know that BM will happily do this for you.

Thanks, that got it within a hair of perfect. I did disassemble and re-assemble but it didn't help. Tweaking the scales per your directions worked wonderful.

Lightning -- Thanks for your post! I've owned lots of BM's and belonged to this Forum for a while now, and I never heard that before.

I think we should have a section for "Handy Tips and Tricks." I bet there are dozens, maybe hundreds of things like that people could post that would interest some of us (not the general public or all BM consuters, but members of the Forum for sure) and would ease the load for BM's Custumer Service team.

I tried it on one of my knives. It works! Thanks again for your post.

I was able to get it this close without much trouble. Excellent knife. Traded a Spyderco Leaf Storm for it.

I always like it when I center a blade and even if it's not perfect, it favors the non-clip side like yours. Why? Because then, every time I push on the thumb-stud to open it I'll be pushing it in the direction of being "more" centered.

Oh it's quickly becoming a favorite among many! Took it out in the woods with the Gransfors Bruks hand axe and it goes well.

Lightning, can you explain why the blade needs to be pulled past center on the opposite side rather than perfectly centered straightaway? Your procedure seems to imply that centering is to be done in two steps; can these not be combined and done in one go? Are there good reasons for this? Thanks.

The centering didn't last too long as it eventually walked its way back to where it wants. I tried a couple more times and each time it returned to slightly off center. No big deal at this point as the knife is otherwise fantastic.

Blue Locktite the pivot. Let it set and dry once pivot is refixed.
If you use it , only you noticed the off centerness.......

If it still bugs you, I'd wait until it needs a good sharpening and then send it to benchmade and let them address both issues at once. If they determine that the blade is warped they should be able to replace it if need be...otherwise they'll put a nice edge on it for you while fixing the centering defect.
