It would be cool to see how regular production blades are sharpened and brought to life

More generally, it would be great to get a behind the scenes look especially since factory tours are not currently available. A video could reach a wider audience, and also perhaps get into places that a tour group couldn't due to safety or other considerations.

That's a good idea, and one that we've already discussed. Not really within the scope of the Special Projects:Test and Innovation Lab, but I'll forward the idea/request to Marketing. They should be able to put together a quick video.

I retract my previous statement, just watched the factory tour that was uploaded onto BladeForums.. sharpening for production & special projects was discussed and exemplified

If it's just a Youtube or other public video, can you provide a link? Thanks!

I think they were in the 2nd and 3rd vid, but you'll learn a lot of other stuff nonetheless

    That was fantastic...

Thanks for posting those videos, Pain!

I had no idea there was so much individual work in many parts of the process, one operator, one machine, one blade...

The whole plant is so clean and beautiful, speaks of corporate pride. No sausage-making going on there.

Part 1 does not include any sharpening info but I posted it just the same. I also look forward to a sharpening video of substance.

I'll add my name to the list requesting a sharpening video. Some of are all thumbs and could do with a visual aide.

    .
Given the age of this thread I suggest it is not a priority for BM. In any case most owners probably wouldn't use belt-sanders etc. Lansky have a video tutorial on their site. A number of members have also offered advice.

Given the age of this thread I suggest it is not a priority for BM. In any case most owners probably wouldn't use belt-sanders etc. In all fairness to BM, they would need to create a video tutorial focusing on manual systems like Lansky and just the good old whet-stone. Probably not a great investment of their resources as their crew probably whip up a razor edge in the time we make a coffee. Lansky have a video tutorial on their site. A number of members have also offered advice.

Didn't seem that old a thread and was just try at helping your request, I'll also agree while most would never have a belt sander of their own to sharpen with, it's interesting to see how Benchmade does theirs.

I freehand sharpen with some narrow stones that are made to fit an EdgePro system, long since sold the system but kept my higher end Shapton stones and hand hold the stone in my left while holding the knife in my right, different but for me it works pretty well.

Thanks Gary. This thread is years old but it was worth trying to 'bump' it and maybe get BM attention. It was worth a shot...

Just a few hours to New Years down here...all the best to you and yours..
