How to authenticate a Jody Samson Bali
Hey everybody, been a little while. This should probably go in the Bali section but this one gets a lot more traffic, so here it goes.
Can anybody tell me a good way to authenticate an old hand-ground Jody Samson balisong. I was at a gun show and saw an old bali and the dealer told me it was a Jodi Sampson hand-ground. It had the old logo on it with the antennas outside of the Wings. It was a stainless steel handle with the same pattern on it as a 42 handle. The blade definitely looked like it was done by hand with a Hollow Grind weeha style. Of course I didn't take any pictures of it to post. But can anybody tell me some obvious things to look for? I called BM and asked them if they could tell me anything to look for and the most they could say is that it was probably from 1987. If this thing is in fact legit. It's in good shape. Not pristine or anything like that but I would say it's in good shape. What would be a good price for it? It also had an old leather case with it.
Thanks!!

We'd have to see some pics to say for sure. That's an oooold one. 0 -
I went back the next day and took a few pictures. If this thing is real i'll be driving about three hours to pick it up.

I don't see anything there that makes me think it isn't legit. It's beautiful. Perfect condition. Well worth the drive.0 -
I just looked at pics of mine & that blade has same flowing lines. I am hard pressed to believe it is anything but an original 0 -
Very nice looking knife. If the price is right it would be a nice one for any collection. 0 -

Interested to hear the going price for a mint condition Jody Sampson ground bali myself...0 -
I'm a little too far removed from collecting to be able to give you a good idea on what it's actually worth.
I can tell you that it's not a weehawk grind. That is a Bowie style grind, which makes it at least a little more rare.
You also say it had an 'old leather case'. Is it a generic case or one of the custom BM cases? The BM custom leather sheaths by themselves are probably $75-100 if I had to guess.
Here is an old catalog pic of both the Bowie grind and one of the BM sheaths.

And a full sized version.0 -
The sheath is the old leather one. With balisong stamped on it. And thanks to everyone for the input so far! 0 -
That blade is gorgeous! 0 -
So, did you end up buying this knife? 0 -
Yep, thanks to everybody's input I bought it.
Sorry for zombieing an old thread!
