Benchmade Bushcrafter 162
Looks like another new Benchmade just showed up at ******. Looking forward to handling it to try out the ergonomics, good price, and from the looks of it excellent sheath.

That's my kind of blade geometry. For something intended to be a functional knife, the red liners are a classy, high-end touch.
Interesting thumb scallop on the side of the scale, combined with a lack of jimping on the spine. What kind of use cases would use that grip over a thumb-on-spine grip?0 -
On the sheath, what purpose does the "D" ring have? Is there also a loop or clip to attach it to the belt? 0 -

High ground drop-point blade with polished finish
S30V stainless steel blade (58-60HRC)
Hand-blended and contoured green G10 handles with red
vulcanized spacer held together with pressed titanium tubing
Brushed full-grain buckskin leather sheath with D-ring and flint
rod loop and retention strap
From the description and picture, it seems the D ring is the way it's meant to be attached/hung. /shrug0 -

Interesting... I didn't notice that before. I can't see any sign of a belt loop on it, that could easily be hidden in that picture though. it seems a little odd if that is the only way to attach it.0 -
dangler sheath should include belt loop with a snap hook that attaches to d ring. 0 -
I think it looks pretty sweet

to bad I already own a blind horse knives bushcrafter 0 -

My guess is it can be used as a dangler sheath.
Nice looking knife, happy to see that BM is putting out a nice fixed blade again. I have been saying they need to for the last two years.

I would have preferred this Shane Sibert Bushcraft knife though.

Yeh mashguy, I saw that on Sibert's webpage..I like the looks of that blood grove and the green canvas micarta...but I think its $450. 0 -
Is it a hollow grind? 0 -

I meant it would be nice if Benchmade produced it

Well with Benchmades MSRP of only $200.00 it's not a bad option at the price and we all know that is not the real market price as you shop around and it does look like a quality knife.
Personally at the moment I am not in the market for another Larger Fixed Blade, unless it is a collectable as I am perfectly happy with the working knives that I already own and have been using for years now...

Nice, the sheath looks very nice. If anyone gets one pleas post comments.
Speaking of bush crafting knives, what does anyone thing about the Ritter MK2? Pre-order on KW. Looks nice, maybe a little pricey.0 -

Sorry, I'm a little dense sometimes...but apparently Benchmade just did, out of the same materials, for less than half the price, and without Shane's wait list.0 -

I wouldn't call it pricey, as it's only a couple dollars more than the Siebert collab. It's a bit bigger than what I need, though.0 -

+1
It more or less looks the same minus the groove and color.0 -

Loonybin you are right. After looking at the Shane Sibert web site this is a deal. In fact after looking there I like this even more.0 -

Personally I think for that much blade in S30V it is pretty cheap...
I was thinking it was a little small for what I need I am sure there are many thinking it is the perfect size though.
Not sold on the sheath though.0 -

For things like batoning it might be on the shorter side, but for processing a deer it is perfect. General camping stuff doesn't require a long blade either.0 -

Yep, just look on KW's site.0 -
will make a good knife for deer hunting or pig hunting. 0 -
I am looking foreward to reviews on this one. 0 -
I wonder if the first made will be a first production marked knife? 0 -

Which is exactly why I want one. Wife's knife takes precedence, however, then I'll get my Bushcrafter. Maybe not until Feb. or March, though.0 -
Hey, I got tired of waiting... ordered this thing, a Condor 'Bushlore', from an AMAZing site ON the internet for <$30 shipped! Made in El Salvador - 1075 CS blade/walnut handles. Scandi ground - edge needed work and handle lacks finish - decent sheath!
You bet I'll get a 162 when they hit the streets... but this thing is a decent 'knock around' knife!
Merry Christmas!

I have a question about the steel. Is s30v a good steel for a fixed blade of this size? My concern is edge retention and chipping.
When I saw this knife for the first time I was thinking anything but s30v. I would have guessed 1095, M4, D2...
I have some small BM folders in s30v and haven't had problems. I like s30v for the small folders, no complaints. But I don't do bushcraft or hard use with my small folders.
How will s30v hold up to hard use and bush crafting, batoning, etc.?0 -
Geocyclist, I don't actually know how S30V is for a fixed blade in comparison to others. Most of my fixed blades are 1095 or A2 tool steel. As you know, those two are great because of their toughness...meaning if you need to pry something they don't break easily and they don't chip easily unless someone blows the heat treatment turning them into exceptions to the rule. I do have a couple CRK fixed blades in what I think is S30V, being their Pacific and the Neil Roberts. I haven't put them through enough to give a fair evaluation. Historically, Chris Reeve backs off on the heat treatment, leaving his S30V a little softer and probably much tougher than you would get elsewhere.
Thanks for the question. Even though I didn't know the answer, someone will.0
