I got this knife as a birthday gift from my family, two boys and wife, it arrived fully dressed with laser etching with birthday wishes and everything, enough to melt the heart of the toughest, hardcore lifer in Sing Sing, in solitary confinement, for being too dangerous for the general population...after taking the lives of a few guards...with his bare hands.

Yes I was that touched, seriously, I truly feel that I am a blessed man.

Lets move on, the knife is big for a folder but then I have no use for anything "mini", the design and feel in the hand is amazing, the blade shape is so classic and useful and utilitarian for just about everything a knife is used for.

It's robust just enough to take on anything BUT not feel like you are carrying a brick in your pocket, the balance between the two is just perfect, IMHO. (I really like writing "IMHO"..it saves so much keyboard time, as a matter of fact a lot of words can be....never mind lets move on)

Aesthetically, it's gorgeous and I am dead serious, not just because it was a birthday gift but because BM put together just enough touches to make the knife not just functional (orange colored backspacer)but pleasing to the eye in color contrasts, IMHO

    , anyway.

The blade grind is a tall flat grind that slices laser like through everything, I lovingly used the knife around the house and food prep including cutting meat and the blade geometry not only makes it an excellent slicer but assists in maintaining a razor edge, so far I only stropped it a few times and it got razor sharp again.

Jason on a different post wrote and I will quote him on this "it's the only knife you'll ever need" (if I misquoted him, I apologize in advance but I specifically remember him writing this).

This knife is slowly replacing my M4 AFCK, you old timers around here never thought you'd hear that from me but here it is.

What does the future hold? there is the CR custom knife builder, I'll have to look into that, gotta save my pennies first, I would really like it in coated M4 Steel, this would be like....finding the Lost Ark Of The Covenant, well almost.

/|\ Archer HB! (Happy Birthday! - & I sir enjoy typing that more than IMHO).

I can’t believe Jason would say the CR is only Knife you’ll ever need. First his fondness for the Bugout. Secondly working at BKC his bosses may fire him, after all their goal is to sell lots of knives.

Again, sir lovely family & HB.

    Thank you sir.

Trust me, I read it here on this forum, maybe somebody will chime in who also remembers, maybe Jason himself, it wasn't long ago.

I don't think BM will fire or even reprimand a worker for publically having a preference for a certain knife.

It's my current favorite, does that mean I won't by other models? really?
    Wink

I've got a 417BK Fact in my sights.

    He’s not wrong, either.
Archer, that’s an amazing way to obtain an amazing knife. Knives (or any objects) are always more sentimental when they come from loved ones. Glad to hear you’ve been blessed with a loving family and a truly fantastic knife.
    Happy birthday!

Archer, most importantly: happy birthday, my friend. I hope it was a great day.

The CR is slowly taking the 806 spot in your rotation??? I may need to give the CR another look.

Great write up, archer. Happy Birthday!

    I'll echo TB's sentiment..."replacing your 806?"...Bold statement, indeed.

As much as I prefer a drop point over a clip point...the CR is an excellent blend of classic design married w/ modern components/materials..really does look like a winner.

I've been tempted a few time w/ the customer builder...almost went for the D2 option and murdered scales and hardware....But I've decided to hold out for a potential M4 offering..the 20cv is tempting but...M4 on this would be stellar..

The same has taken place for me.

The ergonomics of the CR handle are actually pretty similar to the AFCK. Love the classic and robust blade shape on the CR. An M4 blade with some custom Keyman scales would pretty much be the perfect folder for me.

What are the chances of an M4 option...A potential LE? or...see if they add M4 to the customer builder?

Hehe I did say that. And I won't take it back, either!

The 535 is pretty good too, though, to be sure. Different sorta use, although either make fabulous EDCs.

True. Although currently I am carrying neither. I'm getting a little Freek-y today.

M4 blade with a set of Keyman's custom ivory(like) micarta scales, O yeah.

I'm listening. It would be a savage knife in M4. Maybe toss some CF or something on there, too.

So Jason, are we ever going to see a CR in M4?

  • martymcfly
One thing I don’t do on this Forum is quote myself...
But, for interest’s sake, I stated this in another thread:

Still no M4 available for the CR... That must be because there is a 15080-1801 LE in the pipe, right?!

Notice that my statement was neither confirmed nor denied.

    Interesting...

We just don't really confirm or deny stuff like that. We don't plan limiteds more than a year or so out, anyways, so I couldn't answer that even if I wanted/was supposed to.

I'll say this: the way that knife sells, I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see a pretty awesome upgraded version or 10.

In the interim, there IS 20CV available on the Custom builder. Juuuust sayin'.

    Interim 20-CV it is.

/|\ Jason you are just leading them along like lambs to the slaughter.
I think it would be justice to finish them off with that 5 1/2” blade on the XL CR coming this Summer. Unless you prefer the fixed blade Bedlam.

Last year was the year of the mini, so I do hope that this year is the year of the maxi. Because sometimes more is more.

As for the FIXED BEDLAM, while Jason has yet to catch the fever others at the mothership have come down with it, so fingers crossed.

Hehe I do not prefer it. XL CR it is, I guess.

We still need that XL 53X though.
