No affiliation - he is just a great, no bull reviewer with no withholding to makers/vendors.

I like this guys approach to his reviews, generally, him and PM101. I tend to like the stuff they like, they seem to look for similar qualities to those I look for.
For me, this is an affirmation of what I've been saying for years about the Nimravus being as good a small outdoor knife as you can find. It looks to me like the Protagonist, in addition to the slimmer handle, has a slightly more negative included angle in the edge. By that I mean the edge is tilted downward somewhat from the medial line of the handle. This is more efficient for cutting, a little less ideal for tactical use, in my opinion. Seems to be somewhat of a hallmark for Benchmade designs.
Bottom line, the Nimravus is an outstanding lightweight tactical fixed blade, and the Protagonist looks to be tweaked for even better general utility, a little less for tactical applications.0 -
I like some of his reviews. It seems like he has started appreciating the thinner blades as of late. It's interesting to compare his reviews from any one year and then compare that to his end of the year "best of" videos. He has a video from earlier this year praising the H&K Feint which is also thinner than a lot of large fixed blades he reviewed in the past.
I also like some of Spartan John's YT videos... Although they are pretty long and his voice is rather monotone. If you can make it through the videos there is some good information there, IMO.0 -

Nobody ever really seems to talk about this knife much... It's MY favorite fixed blade, but I'm biased.

Being tempermentally unable to pass up an opportunity to praise the Nimravus, so...
I've said this a number of times, so if you've been around awhile, skip...
I bought a Nimravus when they first came out...I dunno, fifteen years ago, thinking it looked like a cool small self-defense knife. Shortly thereafter, I went on a kayaking and salmon fishing trip to Alaska. I didn't have another fixed blade that wasn't a fighter, so I took the Nimravus along. It functioned superbly for every camping and fishing task. From that time on, I have carried it virtually every minute I've spent in the outdoors. I've compared it to many different knives I've purchased, knives I've borrowed from companions, and never found anything I liked better. Even now, with the new popularity of woodcraft knives, I've been impressed with all the features of the Nim that match those that people look for in a woodcraft knife.
...and the Protagonist, of course, is has all those same design characteristics.

I took mine out to hunt some Chantrelles a month or so ago... Not much luck, but it was a blast and this knife was awesome!

Thanks!
I'm not actually convinced I did any damage to it at all with the knife... That thing was like rock.0 -
The only way to hurt one of those things is to remove it from the tree. 0 -
I just ordered one .......for a gift though. 0 -
How do y'all like the Protagonist compared to the fixed Contego? 0 -

I think Fixed Contego can use spine jimping and more protruding guard / finger groove to make it more secure in gripping.0
