Axis Flipper - Those words - but...

Benchmade Axis Flipper are sweet words to my ear, but the thickness of the 300 is a deal breaker. Blade length of 3.18" is perfect though. How may would like to see a slimmer model axis flipper? Along the lines of a 530 or 710 thickness. Just throwing it out there.

So first of all, try the 300-1 with its nicely contoured handle scales. If that doesn't work, you can probably get slimmer aftermarket scales if BM doesn't release a flipper you like more. Personally though, I like a knife that fills the hand comfortably. I EDCed a 551 for years, and that has the same handle thickness to blade length ratio as the 300-1. Good luck!

P.S. I agree you don't need a flipper extension on an Axis lock knife. But I got one for the neat engineering they did on it.

The thumb stud that comes on most Axis models is all the flipper I've ever needed.

flippers are fun to use and the axis lock is the best lock there is. why not put them together? the 300 is just not a nice knife in my hands. I would like to see some other Benchmade flipper.

I've always thought that the flipper and assisted opening had to go together to be truly successful.

I've backed away from that a little...I have owned a couple of flippers now that were made so well, they fired like an assisted opener. I still think the thumb stud is the equal of any flipper though...I mean, what's the diff?

Agreed. I find little need for either a flipper or AO.

Never a huge fan of the flippers. They are cool and functional, assited or not. Had a Black Shallot that was pretty slick. Dont much care for the added girth the "trigger" adds to overall dimension.

I dont flip out,dont care for people who do. Dont flip real estate or automobiles. Dont like folks who flip thier hair or flip me off.

Oddly enough, I like hamburgers, dolphins and pancakes.

A dolphin burger w/ maple syrup would be awesome.

I open to some of the flipper open mechanism. I can say that all of us BKC enthusiasts are "used to" in thumb stud opening and thus has very dexterous thumb. It takes just as much in practice opening with other means.

I think if flipper folder ought to have a lighter narrower blade. I tried 300, but the blade is a bit on heavy side. The detent is a bit thicker and not well formed.

My gripe with 300 is not this flipper, but shortness of handle with three finger detent. I still have my pinky finger...

Im Old School. Rigid 300 all the way. Cut and threads w/ the best.

The flipper works good when you are wearing heavy gloves and you can't work the thumb stud.

I have two 300 models and they both flip open all the way with very little effort. I do hold the knife tip up when folded so I suppose gravity does help some.

I will say that if I have a knife that has both the option to use a flipper or thumbstuds, I normally use the flipper. I guess that is saying something.

Ain't got any desire for a flipper. Between an Auto or an Axis (or Spyder-Hole), I'm happy.
