I've had this one only a couple of years.

Wish I had pics of the old ones I had in the '90s, those were real users.

Wanted to ask if some of the BM historians here knew the approximate production years for the the original 800 & 812.
    Thank you,

I love me some mini-AFCK's. One of my fantasy knives is a mini AFCK with an Axis lock. I'd buy 3 at least.

Po, what is that bottom knife? I like it.

Beauty, Neuro! I don't know what possessed me to sell my M2 Mini (I'm an idiot)...

BeanBurrito - the bottom knife is a 909BK Axis Stryker. Current production.

    Thank you,

I've seen you've posed this question on a few boards across the Net, the silence has been deafening, haha, sorry for that.

I did some searching, found a couple of great write UPS, nothing that gives hard dates of production however, unfortunately.

If there is any place or group that would know, this is it, you would think. Hang in there, your answer may come.

Kicking myself for returning the 800 to the retailer 8 years ago. Found the blade too big for EDC. Jumped the gun, the blade was a good size.

    Thank you,

I bought my first ones in 1993, so I would guess the first year of production for the 800 was 1992?

    That's all I've got...

Thanks. I made that for my wife - carries it in her purse. It's redwood burl w/an ivory medallion (laser engraved). Here's the other side.

    Showing some greats pics.

Thanks Po. I had another person say that they remember the last time buying one was before 1999. So maybe 92-98 +/-?

I think the 710 came out in 1999, and I'm pretty sure the 800 remained in production at least that same year or the year after...So my guesstimate would be 1992-2000.

1992 was the first time the 800 showed up in the catalog. 2001 still has the 804 and 814 listed. 2002 catalog does not show an AFCK.

805 & 806 are my favorite BM's. Have a bunch for just in case. Really pulling for another run of these. And have been for years.

    Patrick thanks for pic.
I've orginal 800 & 810 really great knives and still carry the 800 ( in addition to a 94x) from time to time.
I look at the pic you posted and scratch my head as to how I can still be impressed with my old 800 yet bought a 710-1401 & disliked it so much returned. The 710-1401 looks so similar and even looks more appealing, but it didn't have same feel.
    Again great pic. Regards, Bill

I can't speak for the 800 since I have never had one, but the 812 is one of the most comfortable knives I have owned. It fits my medium/large hands perfecty. Like the jimping also.

Appreciate all the great pics so far.

Know what I've always wanted? A new 805, but with an 806 style blade in it.

Sorry guys...just messin with MCM there. For any newbs that didn't know this, an 805 and an 806 have the same handle. The blades will 100% swap back and forth.
    Big Grin
MCM has always preferred the 805 shaped blade. I prefer the hole instead of the thumb-stud on that one. Also, the 805 is a slightly different blade shape...maybe slightly more like a Ritter-Grip instead of a regular 551 Grip, if that makes sense.

In other words, if you prefer the Ritter to the 551 Grip, you might also prefer the 805 to the 806.

    Your most welcome.

Totally agree. There is something about the original 800. I see a lot of "Great knife, for the 90's, but..." I think it holds up today against any comparable. I had little to no faith in liner locks until I got my hands on a 913 and was impressed, later bought a lightly used 800 03/00, carried and confirmed how solid, reliable, simple and light weight BM has put these together, I had much confidence in it. Would not even consider letting my 805 or 806 go, they are equally favored, but there is something to be said about these 800's, slimmer, lighter and a little less quirky than the Axis models. And strong,... strong enough.

The 810? Its the uncrowned prince, an AFCK/TSEK in all but name. Advice: (pearls to swine?) If you really want an AFCK/TSEK, really want one to use, get an 810, its one of the best in materials, affordable and readily available out there, any issues w/ the ergo's or textile can be ground into submission.

If I had replied to "If I had won the contest.." a week ago, I would have said I would build a Mini AFCK w/ Axis. Hear me out. I was uninterested in the new Sibert liner lock folder, (so uninterested I dont even know the model #/name, help me out..), however, I saw one up close recently at a sport shop and was impressed again, by how solid and well put together the thing was. The liners seemed double thick and put together well...so hear this.

Now, I suggest (never happen) a reborn 800, w/ those double cut liners, some slim contoured on-lays..of whatever material.. in whatever steel. Be a great knife. Your welcome...(Pipe dream, Im aware)

And MCM, from those who care, thank you for still pushing for a return of these. An 809, perhaps? Has there been an 809? Is BM saving that designation, for...? Anyway, keep pushing.

I agree the 810 is the new AFCK and probably more, it can do anything the AFCK can do and probably better so why the wide appeal of the AFCK/TSEK? it's in the curves, we men like curves, we like them on our cars, on our women and definitly on our knives, the AFCK is still the knife I go for first when I put a knife in my pocket, I have about 6 or 7, I'll have to do an inventory and post some pics.

For me, the only lack of appeal from the 810 is the weight. Mine weighs 5.7 oz., where a stock 806 weighs 4.7...which is about my preferred maximum. I looked at the liners on the 810 and they have already been lightened at the factory, so more of that won't help much. I'll have to try replacing its solid metal back-spacer/window breaker with a couple of light standoffs...maybe that will eliminate a half ounce and get the 810 back into my pocket.

I laughed when I read what Patrick said...that "any issues w/the ergo's or texture can be ground into submission" Ha! True enough. Even after doing that, it still has plenty of grip and so that's not an issue...like it was with some of the 805/806 Limited Edition G-10 handles.

All in all, until I can lighten the 810 a little more, it will have to continue residing in my "yard work knife" drawer.

I always like the look of the 812 too, with the inclined thumb ramp. That slim blade was a good cutter. At some point, in a fit of stupidity regarding liner locks, I suppose I sold off my 812HSS. Wish I still had that one. Outstanding EDC.

Hey SRE, those handles you've done are AMAZING. And getting that big ol' hole in that hardened TSEK blade was a miracle too. Impressive stuff.

I've added and sold some since this pic was taken, but it's the newest one I have.
