The spine on the 710-141 is NOT crowned, so it is square to the profile of the blade, not rounded over.

Jason, I always thought a crowned spine was a classy addition to any standard knife. If this is the "top of the line" 710 why isn't this one crowned also? The crowned spine on my kitchen knives makes a huge difference with my kitchen prep. Thanks.

I like the corners just fine, maybe even better than crowned.

But where I really hate for the corners to be rounded is along the edges of the liner where its jimped on liner lock knives. Some of the LW's and the Vex were that way. It seems like its regularly done on Chinese crap.

Normally, I'd agree with you wholeheartedly, depending on the blade style, of course.

There are a couple reasons we didn't crown this guy. For one, crowning tends to remove more material from the spine of the knife than sanding, and the 710 is already a fairly skinny blade as-is. We also wanted to ensure that the thumb lug was always seated square to the blade flat, so there's no gapping where it locks down flush. This can be tricky with a blade style like the 710, where the thumb lug hole is located so close to the spine.

Cosmetically, it also makes the false bevel look a bit off, in my opinion.

Anyways, those were a few of the reasons we decided to sand the spine of the blade, instead of crowning it.

There not out yet... And yes I am getting one or two.
    Hundreds have been pre-ordered.
Might as well! To avoid a long wait.

I just wish they would make more 710's in M390...I'm amazed by how much that steel can perform and it seems like a perfect match for such a hard-use knife designed to perform tasks that the user benefits from M390.

And with Benchmade's expertise in using the high speed steels, perhaps even a cobalt-containing REX 'M' line. From what I have read there are a few REX steels with edge retention not far off from S90V/S110V but with a toughness that is comparable to something like CPM-3V.

Given the 710 is a big knife that will see hard usage, having the toughness factor will probably be a bigger plus here than with a smaller knife not used for the tasks the 710 is made for.
