Well, sorry if you couldn't follow along. Didn't realize I'd be critiqued. I know what color the spacers are. I was just asking, facetiously, (sorry, big word), why the purple. 0 -
Is your disappointment that you bought it without knowing about the backspacer color, and you happen to hate purple? It's a great knife, and all that matters is whether the aesthetic works for you.
In short, to hell with them. Or perhaps, to Cold Steel and their machismo, which must represent some rather unbearable level of hell anyway.
With luck this means they'll never ask to borrow it and "accidentally" keep it.

It initially read like you had the 940 for a long time and loved it....so much that you got a 943. And now the purple is problem. I assumed that you some how had the purple on the new 943.
You could probably take off the back spacer and heat treat it to another color. It's just aluminum anodization in the end.
With some quick googling and probably even ask some ppl here, you can probably easily find out how to easily change the color with something as simple as a butane torch.

I have a solution for you 
It's certainly an unusual color, but if you think about there really aren't many colors that match that green all that well. Blue or red would look terrible, green would not have much of a contrast, and black can't be anodized and probably would not have a great contrast with that dark green.
I'm not a big fan of purple, but I kind of like the contrast created as it really highlights the machining job on the knife. A color without such a contrast with that green wouldn't have this affect IMO. I think a bronze or a smoke gray would probably look really good.
If you do not like the purple, there is one easy and awesome option for you...send it to someone and get it reanodized a different color. I have a guy who does ti anodizing for me and the most a single part has ever cost me was 50 bucks and that was for a large ti slab in a very intricate sandblasted camo pattern.
I think a sandblasted camo ano would look great with the green. Check out Ti Survival. http://tisurvival.com/ I have had Esteban do probably 75+ items over the past two years. His prices are great and workmanship is fantastic. If you do this, be sure to also get a matching lanyard bead in the same finish as the backspacer. This looks incredibly sharp and is functional.0 -
I kind of agree on this one. My opinion is there is too much color going on with green and purple together. So blue, red, orange would not be any better. Black would do well?
On a serious note, I have a 940 (1201??) the black, LE, with black scales and silver back spacer. I have thought many, many times about getting a satin 940, putting the silver back spacer with green (I think this would look good with a satin blade) and putting the purple on the black scale with black coated blade, here the purple would really pop with all the black. While I love the 940, having a 2nd 940 with S30V has not made the top 5 next purchase list, so it has never happened. I can say the current 943, black with blue back spacer looks better in real life than the photos.
Keep in mind that any sins of the purple back spacer are completely overlooked with the 940-1. Not only is it the greatest knife ever, but blue is the correct choice for the barrel spacers0 -

Gives it character and visual interest, and definately helps set it apart from the crowd visually.0 -
If you don't like purple, it's easy enough to fix. Loosen the two frame screws, drop out the back spacer. Hit it with a wire brush until the purple is gone revealing a nice dull Ti gray. Then place it back in the knife and tighten the screws. 0 -

Yes, the 943 has a blue back spacer, but I think the purple suits the green handle better than the blue would.
I didn't think much of the color choices originally either...hehe...at all. But I've learned from other knives, that what you initially consider off-putting will keep you more interested in the knife in the long run. Uniqueness.
Funny, the second custom Barrage I ordered had grey handle scales, and...a purple back spacer. The custom Barrage with the tan scales and orange back spacer is still irritating me...but it's my favorite folder right now.0 -
Sounds like solid advice, Po. And, yes, maybe with time the color would grow on me. I it's think that since it has black clip and screws, it would look better if all the visible parts (axis lock buttons, etc..) were black.
Maybe I can find someone who could do that for a reasonable price.0 -

Secondly to ACAR thank you all these years and I never though of just scraping of the purple & going with the natural Ti.
To all those who don't like the purple Ti spacer go news is there are lots of color variations that Benchmade produced without the purple backspacer. Before the carbon fiber handles there was the knife of the month with blue handle & backspacer. To me it was allowed me to retire the green one. It would be great if Benchmade had custom parts department with different color back spacers, screws , standoffs & pocket clips so we could customized this great knife

There are sooooo many options here there is no need to limit oneself to the colors Benchmade has produced!
They do the exact same process to yield certain colors (voltage dependent). And many of the camo patterns are just plain wild.

Po- That's kind of what I'm planning. I've ordered the second knife, and I'm thinking that it's not that hard to switch.
But, like some wiser person predicted, the green is starting to grow on me. Purple and all. So, worst case? I'll have two members of the 940 family. I'll let you know if I go ahead and swap blades.0 -

When Benchmade dumped the 942 I shook my head. The 942SBK was the sexiest knife Benchmade has ever made. Should have just dumped the green and went with black handles on both the 940 and 941. 0 -
