Whooo! Nice, but such a price.
Hey Benchmade, makes us lowly forum members a 551 LE with G-10 scales milled like that for under $300 why dontcha?

Yowzers. Now this is a sexy knife. I couldn't join the love parade for the 556-141, because that knife has the aesthetic value of a croissant spray-painted grey and topped off with blue glitter. (Blue is also generally a "poisoned" color to me--so: personal bias, admitted.)
Take the exact same design, dress it up like this, and it's an order of magnitude more attractive. It almost looks as expensive as it is. Beautiful work; too rich for my blood.0 -
I'd give $400.00 for it 0 -
I know that I would Love to have one.

Yep, she's a looker alright. Maybe I can be her sugar daddy. 0 -
good grief.. I like this one so much. 0 -
Hey Benchmade,
What I like about this one that can carry over to production knives:
1. Scales - flat, some jimping, and grooves, can be AL for production. Open design with barrel spacers. I really like the geometry of these.
2. S90V blade steel - if the 940-1 can get it in full production I am hopeful for full production in the grip.
I love this knife, out of my price point, but hopefully the above points will translate into production mini-grips.(Did I mention I really like the flat style scales in AL?)0 -

Not even that. The One Grand mini-Grip!
It is beautiful, awesome, etc., but I think someone in marketing/acounting/wherever was in Colorado when they invented that MSRP...0 -
Very Nice! Price is too high though. Benchmade should make a higher end mini grip (but not gold class) that has some better handle materials and blade, but not so high end like this one that is only for collecting. I'd be all over that. 0 -
Very nice. 0 -
I'll take it! And the 551 to match! That is sick, sick sick!

Looks great but too expensive for me

Its a grand knife it is. 0 -
I too feel Mini Griptilian that is near grand is a bit too high for me.
But again, I am still on the fence regarding Gold class. It is hard for me to pull the trigger for a knife; as exotic as they may be, double , triple or more for production knife that is replaceable and very functional like BKC knives.
Per web site, BKC calls Blue = Recreational, Black = professional, and Gold = collector.
I guess I would frequent between recreational to professional.0 -
It is beautiful. Hopefully a indicator of design elements to come to LE's and regular production.
That being said, this is a little high for a gold grip. It will probably sell out though, only 150 pcs. and a mini grip.0 -
Gold Class knives are made by a select number of people at benchmade. These guys are custom makers with out names behind them. There fit and finish is comparable if not better to custom makers. Prices are fair and reasonable if you are a collector of custom knives. Just my thoughts! 0 -
I'll sure second that, stormin! 0 -

Yes, that make sense. As far as I am concerned, with customer service reputation of BKC, I would rather pay Gold class than other super custom made.0 -

Agree completely.
Just wish we had a Silver class made in numbers large enough to allow sub $500 MRP. Most of the price of the $600-$800 Gold class knives seems to be for exclusivity, based on the small number of knives made, even in the case of the unlimited limited editions.
After all, most of the parts, even of the Gold Class knives are mass produced, laser cut, then hand finishes are applied. Materials in most cases, though expertly executed, are not particularly premium.
Case is point is the 7505-132 Sibert DA. A manual action version of that knife with factory satin finished blade could be sold for under $400, and a lot of us would buy them.
This 556-142 is another case in point. Frankly, even a hand maker making a one-off of this kind would have to have a large backlog to charge $950 for this knife. A silver class could be made of it with aluminum or G-10 handle and M390 blade, I think even with a CF inlay, and sell for $300. The only possible justification for the $950 MSRP is the fact that there were only 150 made. You are paying not for craftsmanship and materials, but for exclusivity.
I'm too frugal to put much value on exclusivity. That's the entire reason I own dozens of Benchmades, and only a half dozen hand made knives.0 -

Funny you should mention that.
I met them last week, both of them. They did have names, but I was sworn to secrecy to protect the innocent...
Seriously though, a great pair of guys with immense focus on their work. Indeed, based on what I saw, the knives they were creating were every bit the handmade custom (using modern tools that most custom makers would be jealous to have available) as any other maker that I have met.0 -
Fabulous and like the blade and handle... But too high price for my taste

I wish your idea was the evolution of the griptilian. G10, altered design, standoffs. A griptilian like that at MSRP $200 would be an easy sell.0 -
