Trainers?
Any recommendations on an inexpensive but good quality trainer? My teenage nephew is really liking butterfly knives right now and I think a trainer would make a great Christmas present for him.

You can preorder a Benchmade 62T on bladehq. But for sure it is not inexpensive. 0 -

This. Don't forget the Neosporin. Besides, what're you going to do with a trainer when the zombies come, eh?0 -
Hmm. I miss the days when the 42t was $125. Man those were some great times.
To answer your question though there isn't one. Your best bet would be Spyderco sad to say. It won't flip like a BM because of how the handles are shaped but it is a good starting point.0 -

Yeah, I hear you. I kick myself for not getting a 42 and 42T when they were affordable. I figured, "nah, they're iconic knives, Benchmade would never discontinue them."

The Spyderco is not a bad idea. I might have to get him a BaliYo pen. Although that might end up causing some cuts when he switches to a real bali.
Oh, well. I will also keep my eye out for used 32s or 51s as those seem to be the most affordable when used.

I would not get a baliyo. I bought one when they first came out and I was very disappointed. Imho they are harder to flip then a POS $20 bali. If you still want to give one a try send me your address and you can have my old baliyo and CD. The CD is scratched to hell but I just put it into my computer and it still plays. I don't have any extra CD cases to put the CD in though...

Dang, thanks for the heads up.
And thank you for the offer for the BaliYo, I would like to try it out and will send you a PM.
Right now he's "flipping" a pair of pliers, a pocket notebook, or anything else he can get his hands on. So anything remotely "bali" should help, plus I want to get him hooked on liking knives.

You can use a sandwich bag instead of a cd case. Worked for me in the past.0 -
