Rockscale Designs - Ti scales
Shoutout to Matt at Rockscale Designs.
He’s doing some great things with Ti.
He’s also pricing his scales very modestly, IMO.
This is why I’ve finally decided to Bug Out.
Check out some of his 535 scale work:
Good ol’ classic blasted Ti:

Some lines:

And my personal favorite, the “Critter” pattern:
(He does custom anodizing too)

Right on Tim. That looks awesome.

Good looking combination

Almost makes me want to buy a 943

What is the finish ? Raw sandblasted or is there any coating on it ?
How is the grip on this pattern ? I requested this pattern for the bugout and Matt replied that he plans to have it available in the future.
I can confirm that the fit and finish of the bugout scales was absolutely perfect !

Brendan the finish is on this one is raw Sandblasted. When I ordered Matt only had raw (No anodization), Blue or Bronze Sandblasteds available.
The grip is excellent! It feels like it sticks to your palm when you old it in your hand.
No Slip Grip... errr... No Slip 943!

BM CS wouldn't keep your knife. They are well aware that there are those of us that customize our knives. As well there are a number of individuals here in the forum that can sharpen and tune your BMK if you are that worried although I wouldn't be. Of course you've voided your warranty by taking the knife apart anyway. I'll bet they would still sharpen it for free!
Marty has posted a few of the different scales that have been made for the 940-1 -2s. The last ones are "Matt’s Ti “Mollusk” scales" which have a different pattern than those I just picked up. If you look on page one of this thread you'll see these which Marty has on a 943 which is what drove my purchase. I've outfitted mine with complete blue ti hardware and its sweet to say the least.
Matt's scales are complete precision at what I would almost describe as Mil-Spec. The reassembly of my 943 went so smooth and everything fit back together perfectly. There is absolutely no blade play in any direction and centering is flawless. The 943 feels great in the hand with the new scales on and the ridges in the pattern without a doubt make the knife grip my skin with no slippage what so ever.
I suggest looking at the the bottom of the RSD Homepage to see the different designs Matt has produced.

Thanks Tim, That is so pretty. I will not EDC it. It would be a waste. It should be keep in the safe.

If I have that kind of knife. I would play it, exam it, all day long.

Thanks Arc. It did come out pretty sweet IMO. I did take it in to work today in its box today to play with. lol
I found a rather unique blue titanium clip similar to the one used on the Anthem that will finish it off. After its mounted I'll be content with the knife being completed and truly mine.
I've always felt is was a shame to simply keep a knife as a Safe Queen. My collection has grown to somewhere around 150 BMKs. Some are GCs, some LEs, some FPs and some just general release. I try to carry all of them here and there when it comes to work as I really don't do anything that would beat up or mar my knives. If I'm off to do some heavy work or heading up to go camping I carry more appropriate equipment including the selection of my EDC. Granted I do use my knives like this one as a fidget toys when I have an easy day sitting behind my desk at work. Hey its a great way to break them in!

Edited: 943BK finally completed with RSD Scales, MXG Blue Titanium Clip and xxxadrenalinxxx Titanium Hardware.

For anyone interested in the Rockscale Design scales the store is scheduled to open on Saturday, March 30 at 12:00PM PST.
Last time it took less than a day to sell out. The 940-1 -2 Sandblasts that I used on the 943 were sold out within the first 30 minutes.
Get um while their hot guys!

Guess I’m buying another 94X

I was bad yesterday and ordered another set of RSD scales ... The Titanium Scales for Benchmade Bugout 535 in Blue Sandblast and a Plain Ti Spacer.

I've really went way over my knife budget this month! And I'll have to get another Bugout to add them to!

But hey, just another day closer to bankruptcy!!!

At one point, RSD had some prototype scales for the Rift. I really want those...

So Yesterday I was on the RSD site waiting for the Teale Sandblast Titanium Mollusk Scales for the 940-1 & 2 to go live and although everything else went live for sale, the Mollusk Scales never did. So I emailed Matt to see what the story was. He messaged me back saying that he was sorry and would be happy to invoice and send me a set... Matt's a great guy and really takes care of his return customers!

Got the RSD Teal Mollusk in and they are truly better in person. Photos just don't do them justice. Planning on some some Bright Bronze hardware to use with them on a 943. Or maybe Matte Purple. Hmmm
The big question is should I use them with a Satin 943 I already have or find a new 943BK?

Silver with satin would be my 1st choice, or bronze with BK

Those turned out great Tim. I'd probably go with the satin blade.

Thanks guys!
I guess I'll bust out the Satin 943 and do it up! Going that route saves me the cost of a new BK!
BTW... Anyone hear from Adrian (xxxadrenalinxxx) as to why the 940-1-2 spacers are astronomically priced? Waiting on prices to drop back to normal before this one goes beyond scales. I know that he's busy as hell but the high price is usually a sign of an issue.

/|\,Your Welcome Tim. Only downside, as I see it, is we are not helping you spend more $$$ on knives😀

Mo money, mo money!
It will just go to a different knife Bill.

I just heard back from Adrian (xxxadrenalinxxx) regarding his 940 Barrel Spacers. He is temporarily out of stock due to a mis-judgement of stock requirements. He expects to have them back in stock and at a normal price sometime around mid June. He should also have the Bugout Axis Bars available around the same time. His complete Ti hardware sets should also be back to normal pricing then. 😎
Looks like it will be at least a month before my RSD 943 will be completed.

Does Adrian have a website?
Found him on eBay.

I've only seen his wares on eBay.
I know that there are a number of Ti hardware makers out there. Just that I've had great luck with his stuff and the fit and finish has always been perfect.
