    Thank you GDRP!

Complying with the GDRP is for suckers. No physical presence in the EU let them try to enforce any fine in a U.S. court.

Excellent question! I’m also hoping we can navigate from one page to another in a discussion with a handy arrow button, in addition to the page numbers.

Yeah, GDPR is a big thing. Just about everything (System of database) that have public facing internet presence and have server / and have EU info that are stored are affected.

Well, any data from EU is subject to GDPR as long as one wants to have a site visible to EU.

My point was about the transnational enforcement of judgements. I think it would pretty difficult for an EU judgement to be enforced in the U.S. against a company with no EU presence. That would violate more than a couple basic principles of U.S. law. The EU would have to bring an action in a U.S. Court to enforce their judgement against a U.S. corporation with no EU assets. That U.S. corporation is going to argue that the 1st amendment protects its use of data and we will have to see what the U.S. court says. It is still an open issue. Looking at the right to be forgotten in the regulation it is hard to see how that can be reconciled with the 1st amendment right to free speech. Should be interesting.

And as to ignoring the GDPR, I stand by my previous statement that that is not legal advice, but a joke. As a corporation, why risk the potential high fines if it is easy to comply?

I think this is good and shows a commitment by Benchmade towards the forum in general. The forum software is long overdue for an upgrade.

Being able to post pictures easily is something I hope is addressed. I think it only helps Benchmade as seeing the product in hand by users is always a good thing. How many of us go to YouTube to see a review simple to see the knife in hand...

    +1
I’ll agree with all of the above.
Yet, I still say that posting photos here has been overly made out to be “rocket science”.
    It’s not.

Be that as it may, we’re definitely due for a software upgrade.
Whatever that may bring, I’m hopeful that it’ll be for the best.
    Bravo, BKC.
I for one am thankful for such maintenance to a lesser traveled road.

Anyone else feeling sentimental and kinda sad to see the old forum go?

I'm still happy about the new software!

Of cause you do not need to comply, if your IP address are blocked to all EU access including their search engines listing.

Sort of denied to entry to all Europe countries, because one doesn't like their law. Nothing to do with US law.

Many company now a days have revenue of 60% from non domestic source, so it would be a business decision to comply.

No. Not one bit.  It has barely changed since I joined in late 1999/early 2000.  It has been a dinosaur that didn't want to admit it was extinct and needed to sink into the tar pits.

I'm not sure I'm happy about the new format, though...

And the big question: will we be able to get to the forum on Tapatalk?

The thing I'm missing the most is being able to see everything new with one click and glance.  Other than that I guess it's fine.

    Same here. Big time.

On my laptop, I can see a "Recent Topics" bar on the right-hand side of the screen, which helps a little. But on my phone -which is how I usually access the forum- it's not there, unless I'm missing something. One click and a glance is a helluva lot easier and quicker than what I have to do now and will potentially SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the amount of time I spend here. I'm simply not gonna scroll, scroll, tap, scroll, scroll, tap, scroll, scroll.

So...after months to prepare, why is this still not a secure website?

The same "Not Secure, be careful here..." message is at the top of the page because data is not encrypted.

My assumption is that it's because you're allowed to post third party hosted content, which obviously we can't secure.  I don't actually know though.

So far, I think I might be the only one who loves the new software upgrade to our Forum...  It seems that I’m a strong minority, anyway.  Personally, I can’t believe the high level of complaints that’ve been brought forth by many members.  This is WAY better, IMO.  An upgrade, absolutely.  Much more user friendly!  I think taking the time to make yourself familiar with the new software would be much more productive and appreciated than contributing post after post conveying dislikes.  I’d like to believe it false that the saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” has any merit here.  I didn’t expect everyone to embrace the upgrade with open arms after many years of familiarity with the last software... But here we are.  Like it or not, the upgrade has been implemented, and it’d be a shame to lose any valued members over such a simple advancement.  I’m telling you - this software update is for the better. To those who don’t agree with me simply because they may be experiencing frustration / newfound troubles navigating the Forums, I would gladly extend my hand to help you out in any way that I can.  I’m sure I’m not the only one here willing to do so.  Please, don’t hesitate to PM me or post here if you have any questions or need some pointers.  I’d be more than happy to do my part in aiding any members with the new transition.  My biggest concern is having both preexisting & new members call it quits here or be deterred from participating over dislike/confusion pertaining to the new software.  I’d hope that with a bit of time, the future will bring just the opposite, and that the Forum’s new facelift will increase participation.

My issue isn't assimilation.  It's the format. Don't like it. Feels cheap, confined.

    For the record.

I like nothing about the new format.

Takes 3 times trying to log out on phone..

Just like it's been taking 3 times to use my credit card in those retail counter top things, lately.

    Anyone else notice that?

    it's the china, man..

See this box below? It helps...a little. But it only appears on my laptop and not my phone. And if I can't access recent postings easily  on my phone -as easily as I did on the old site- I'm not even gonna bother with it. Maybe I'm missing something, though, because (on my phone), it sure ain't easier. Like Patrick said, "My issue isn't assimilation.  It's the format."

With my iPhone, all I do to view that box (as well as toolbars while adding a reply) is to turn my phone sideways (landscape mode). I can’t speak to the use of other devices yet.

Works with Android phone also but I'm still not a fan.  Typically a phone friendly site doesn't require rotation to get the full experience.  I'm hoping things will change because this kinda sucks.  I'd welcome the old forumat back in a heartbeat.  I'm starting to feel like an old cranky asshole.

I am kind of lost. Don't really where to look. It seems the same but not quite.

    ADMIN:

My Display name is still in lower caps and is greyed out in my profile so I can’t change it. Last I heard from you, you are aware of the problem and working on it.

The date we joined and how many post is still missing.  Is that going to stay that way or are you working on it?

Edit: if you hover over a persons name it shows a lot of info.  The date they joined and a lot more.  It does not show how many post they have contributed but does show Points and Community Rank.

Edit: I thinking that  Points: might be post - not sure though.

    Everything else is great.

Just like getting a new phone we have to teach each other.

We had the same forum software for the last, what? 50 years!?!? It is kinda hard to adjust to the new format but I will get used to it. The old forum was long in the tooth, and the issues with posting pictures was a big issue.
