The "Benchmade bite" who's done it??!
Ok, so I know I'm not the only fool to have closed his finger in his brand new, freshly sharpened, shiny, fancy Benchmade. Photos are a plus, tell me what knife bit you, and what you were doing wrong to cause it. Sometimes it's fun to make a light story out of idiocy! 
I'll start....
I was chatting on the phone to a buddy that just moved to Ohio, flipping my auto 5000 when I closed it against my leg... Not realizing that my finger was in the way until I felt the serrations glide effortlessly through the meat of my middle finger. [See photo below]

In one of my less than smart moves, I did this a year or so ago, don't remember what the blade was. Good news the cut was clean and healed nicely;

I've been fortunate - only cut my finger on dull SAKs. The worst, pain-wise, injury was trying to open a new Case Seahorse Whittler - I doubled my thumbnail over and tore in in the quick trying to open it with the nail nick. I enjoyed that for a week or more! Had to use pliers to open the thing.

OK, so I must be the real clutz in the room because I have to admit to doing this a few times...not daily (thank goodness!) but more than once. My most recent dumbo moment came when flipping a mini-Ridder closed. I was holding it too deep in the palm of my hand and the tip put a nice slice on the "heal" of my hand. Nothing major, nice and clean, so it bled freely and healed quick but, boy did it feel stupid at the time! 0 -
My 930 always bites me when I flip it closed, I guess it's because the tip is so close to the end of the handle when it's closed - it's still one of my favorite knives though 
I can't remember ever cutting myself bad with a Benchmade... other knives, yes... but that was a long time ago and I'm now smart enough to use axis locks0 -

Sorry, no pictures here, but I've been cut plenty. I once messed up somehow and cut a flapper off the knuckle in the middle of my left index finger. I was able to clean it, lay the flapper back down and bandage it back in place. It re-attached just fine, but it took a while. 0 -

I got my first benchmade 15-16 years ago. I did all my stupid stuff with my 975. I documented many of my larger cuts in the "first Benchmade" thread, by I've cut myself a bunch on the hands, to the bone a handful, stuck in a bone twice, lanced my left bicep, deep in my palm, across my thigh, pretty much you name it. 0 -

Is that with super glue? How does it work? Does the cut have to stop bleeding for the glue to work?
Where can you get the super glue they use in the ER or is it all the same stuff?
I have cut my thumb a few time opening a 525 (which is a guess the opposite of a bite).
I have also cut the inside edge of my index finger closing blades. Not sure how I did this - cut the finger that is closing the blade. I just make sure to push on the whole blade and not just the stud on the side.0 -

Couple things come to mind with superglue, store and medical superglues are different so because of our safety obsessed culture I think I should tell you to use the medical grade stuff.
That being said, yes the bleeding should be stopped and you should read up on it. It reacts with water, the stuff in your blood that makes it wetand causes the glue to almost instantly harden.
I've had on several occasions torn open wounds after sealing them ands it stings. Another safety note, if your wound isn't clean you can seal in germs/bacteria or matter that your body doesn't like, if you think that maybe stitches would be better or aren't completely sure of how to handle your cut then don't, seek medical help.
Really, first aid is a skill set, know what you're doing, you only have one body.0 -

It's been probably 12 years since I have cut myself in any real capacity with a knife. I did all my training up with the 975. Cut off the tips of pool cues, chopped down saplings, cut wedges for axe handles, and a bunch of other stuff that other tools are better suited for. I learned a lot of lessons that way.
The picture below is the last big cut I did with a blade and I did it with a lawnmower blade in 2004. Only broken bone I've had in my life.

What's the first aid for the worst bite our beloved knives take... out of our wallets? Those wounds are self-inflicted!
One good attribute of these posts - it's nearing lunchtime and the gore pretty much ends my hunger. Y'all be careful out there.

You aren't alone. I have cut, sliced, and stabbed my hands and fingers by accident since I was a kid....just less so now.

I was using my brand new limited edition Ares 730-1203 to trim some green pecans that we had picked in the yard. Well, the knife is super sharp. And, the pecans are pretty small. So, on one of them when the knife went through the green outer shell and skimmed across the hard shell, it bit my thumb pretty good. Not as bad as some of ya'lls cuts. But, it bled pretty good.

Y'all gotta learn to be more careful.
I've done hundreds of hour of live blade CQC training with knives, carrying and twiddling knives daily, flipping balis for years, and have never suffered anything like that. I've had a couple small nicks from balis, and once a loooong time ago, I dropped a 970, and rather than let it hit the concrete, I caught it...paid a little price for that.
...other than that, nothing (knock on wood). Y'all gotta be more respectful, or yur gunna get yur knife handling merit badges taken away.0 -

I don't know bout them other fellas, but when you actually use your knives for real work each day every now and then you'll get a little nip. I ain't as experienced as some of the other fellas. I am only 49. I have only been using knives since I was 8. So I ain't near as experienced as some of the other fellas on the boards. But, yea, if you actually use knives for work where you cut stuff sooner or later you mite get bit a little by one. LOL0 -

That's a good point, Marty. Now that you mention it, I do have a few scars on my fingers from the days when I worked as a deck hand on a fishing boat. I used to cut myself occasionally while cleaning fish. But three or four scars from cleaning godonlyknows how many salmon...not bad.0 -
10-4 on that PO. Over the years I think most of the little nicks I've gotten have been from cleaning wild game. Usually, just a little nip here or there, every now and then. The worst cut I've ever gotten with a knife was when I was 14. I was cleaning a squirrel, by myself. I was trying to cut through one of it's legs after skinning it, and nearly cut through my middle finger on the left hand. I ended up with 7 stitches on the outside, and several on the inside to close off the arteries I cut(2 of the 4 that go through the finger). My buddies back then sure made fun of me. The splint they put on my finger made it look like I was flipping everybody the bird. Had to wear it for about 4 weeks too. I still have the scar to remind me of that one. Lesson learned. 0 -

A couple years ago a friend at work was playing with my freshly sharpened 550HG, just flipping it open and closed with the axis lock. He didn't realize it, but when he was flipping it closed it was slicing through an inch of the cuff of his brand new North Face fleece jacket, and not a cheap one. He acted like he was injured when he realized it lol. Sucker was so sharp it didn't even notice the fabric on its way through. 0 -

Imagine the damage he could have done with a big knife like an 810 or 610. Like getting a big puff of goose down on each closing.0 -
I'm an idiot. I decided while driving down the highway that I wanted to retrieve my mini Ritter from my pocket (which was under the seatbelt) and in the process partially opened the blade taking a chunk out of my hand. 65 mph...blood everywhere...not a pretty sight. And then trying to explain it to the wife back home what happened. She concurred that I'm an idiot. :-) 0 -
Any of you guys remember when BM's used to come with a brandade dispenser? When I got my first Benchmade in the early 90's I kinda laughed at that. Until it came in handy! Lol 0
