weird 940
Do you notice anything different about this blue 940? (hint, look at the pivot screw)
should I leave it as is or should I send it in ??

Just unscrew it, turn it around and screw it back together.
I like the looks of that CF btw... nice lookin set of knives.

Ive tried that no amount of force will push the pivot free. am I doing something wrong?? 0 -
You're using a Torx size 10 driver? 0 -
My guess if you're using the right size driver is that the previous owner completely degreased it and filled it with blue locktite... and I shudder to think if he used red. 0 -
yeahp the screw came out easy enough I just cant push the female end out 0 -
You may try taking a hair dryer and blasting the pivot area until it's hot... hot hot. Won't hurt the blade, if you can, hold the knife in a vice or with padded pliers and start checking with a torx in your other hand to see when the heat loosens it up.
I highly doubt it's the result of rust or corrosion.0 -
Ahh, easy peasy!
take your t6 and shove it in the female side. it won't hurt the threads.
or stand your driver on a table, put the pivot over it and tap on the knife.0 -
Thanks a lot Skimo!!. I don't know why but the female end was in quite snug, took quite a bit of effort to budge it out. And thank you as you can tell I love the 940 but I'm pretty sure I'm preaching to the choir

Yes, I think it's one of Osbornes best designs, Benchmade picked a winner with it.
Glad I could help.
Welcome to the forums... we have all sorts around here and they're all good.. well most of 'em... Might wanna watch out for guys like Rezarf, Joe Karp, Carson, DJ, fastjan, Perado, Pascal (I'm not leaving you out, just got tired of typing.)... they're not to be trusted. Animals I tell ya, stark raving mad... toss a piece of M2 in the middle of them and there'd be a blood bath!

Yes, Skimo's right. we're a boodthirsty bunch.
...actually, unless the pivot's cemented in, sometimes I'll reverse the pivot to the smooth side. Depends on the knife, but it feels better that way and has no impact on its function.0 -
Is the pivot screw reversible? I thought the socket end had a flat and the correct scale had a flat (hole with a flat side) to mate.
Another trick I have used is loose the screw 1/2 way then push on the screw. As long as you have more than a few threads engages, should be OK.0 -
If the pivot is like the griptilian, you pull back the axis lock half way and the pivot should fall out. 0 -
To the OP, can't help you with the pivot thing, but when did Benchmade release a 940 with a CF handle? 0 -
bchan77, I don't know the year, but the model was called 940D2CF. They also released a 941 in this style as well. 0 -
Thanks Carson, the CF handle surely gives a much more classier look to the already nice knife. Too bad they are only released in aluminum handles these days. 0 -
Thumbs up on the 940D2CF. It is one of my queensafe knives. 0 -
Back to the pivot screw. Do any lefty's ever reverse it on purpose? 0 -

I have reversed pivot screws, but not because I am left handed. I've done it to centre a blade...0
