It looks like a rebladed limited edition. It looks to have the LE scales with older blade.

You could just check with the guy you bought it from...maybe you did already.

Yeah, it looks like a 730-801... except that was S30V, not 154CM.

Looks like the 730bk-1203 or 730-1301 scales with an older 154cm blade. Original owner probably took the s30v or m390 blade and put it on something else. The 730-801 is a lighter green in the handle scales.

It's hard to see in the photos but there is no green in the scales. It is a black/grey layered

Also, the pivot is wrong, the screws are wrong, the clip is wrong, it's black coated and not satin.
Just a Frankenstein knife and not an official release.
Not every knife you find on eBay is worth flipping. Good luck with it.

Great info. What variation would the blade be from? All the coated blades I have seen include the Elishewitz laser-mark?

Everything lines up very well, centered blade, and no signs on the hardware that indicate the knife was dismantled. Any chance this was an employee take home project from the plant?

Could very well be an employee take home.
What is number under the butterfly on the blade? 730? 732? 735?

Benchmade transitioned from etching the Elishewitz name on the blade after 2001, but I've purchased Ares from 2003-4 that still had the etching. I guess BKC had a bunch of blades already made that they had to move.

I think what you have is a re-bladed 730-801 with a different pivot screw, different frame screws, and a different clip.

You wouldn't happen to have the box, would you?

    Looks really nice!
Unless you spent a fortune intending it as an investment, it should serve well as an EDC that should brings pride & joy each time you take it out of you pocket.

Unfortunately no box, and the previous owner had no history other than it was part of an estate sale. The blade is marked 730 under the Benchmade logo.

    I love the Ares.

    But I don't love it $365 much.

I think that is one of the variations that was sold out side the US a few years ago.
