If you've never tried the M390 Ritter, this would be a great opportunity! The Gold Class Grip would be another option if you're looking to go up-market. Lastly, nothing wrong with a plain 55x to match your mini and make a low cost user or loaner that you won't lose too much sleep over using/abusing/losing.

Here's what you need to do:
    1. Hurry and order the 551-1401 REI exclusive before they're sold out - all they have left is the partial serrated, doesn't matter get it!
    2. Order the 552-1401 M390 Ritter
    3. Once both knives come in, swap out the blades

Voila! you have yourself an ultra-cool M390 Ritter blade in some very stylish green g10 scales for EDC, and also a "lightweight/throw-down/abuser/glove box/tool box knife" with upgraded S30V steel.

Do it Do it Do it, It's best way to get a couple grips back in the rotation!

The REI-M390 Ritter Franken-knife is a superb idea. You couldn't buy a better knife than a REI G-10 handle with a M390 Ritter blade.

There are a couple other ways to go depending on the cost, blade steel, and blade profile you want.

Regular production: you can get the modified sheepsfoot (MSF) blade (hole opener), the modified drop point (MDP) blade (551), and the tanto. These are all available in 154CM, great steel, and also, there is a Cabela's exclusive in D2BK, I believe it is the 551 (MDP) blade only. Also, you can get the Ritter blade in S30V, or M390 (Knifeworks exclusive?). Several different handle colors, black, sand (tan), olive drap, light blue, yellow, and pink. Internet prices for standard models are about $100.

Custom shop: any of the blade profiles in 154CM, D2, N680, or S30V. More handle colors. Choice of clip. Cost, about $150 for S30V. One of my favorites is a S30V 551 in a standard handle.

Another one of my favorite Grips, is a Cabela's D2 Grip with custom G-10 scales that I purchased from an Internet dealer. Total cost about $190. One of my other favorites is a S30V 551 in a standard handle.

The ultimate would be a M390 Ritter, or S30V Ritter, or any Grip blade, in a Deathgrips carbon fiber, inlayed handle, or a carbon fiber handle by Keyman - either I think around $225-$275 total depending on how you sourced the blade.

    So the choices are dazzling.

I wonder if I am the only one here who never owned a grip or mini grip.

I did give my dad a 553 as present for his birthday, and he loves it. Also my sister has a grip. So I think I am the only law enforcement officer in my family that doesn't have one also.

I went for many years not owning one after they first came out...plastic handle? Nah...

Not sure what tipped me over...might have been fastj running over one with his truck to show how tough they were.

I determined to get one and evaluate it purely on performance, not on my preconceptions, and it won me over heart and mind. The traction ridges on the handle edges notwithstanding, the handle is extremely comfortable and secure. The light weight means carry it effortlessly in any attire - well, once you've smoothed the handle under the pocket clip a bit. The size is perfect for all around utility, finally, I really like the 551 blade grind, good balance of edge strength and cutting geometry. Lastly, it has a better handle to blade length ratio than the 520, with the same blade length. Can't beat it really. And the G-10 limited editions? Awe man...the shiz.

Actually...the guy who ran over his Grip was MarkG.

I agree with Po that Grips are pretty great. I have about 8 of them currently. Some in the LE G-10 handles, some in Gold class CF, some in handles from Europe, one that DOAT made and a couple in the original plastic handles. I like em all.
    Cool

I am truly sorry for that, Mark. You certainly deserve the credit.

It is sometimes hard to keep the lunatics straight around this place.

I certainly have not forgotten the sacrifice you were willing to make to demonstrate the Griptilian's true character for the benefit of the rest of us knife nuts.

I admit it, my relationship with knives is a little eccentric.

Before you go off and spend $185 on a serrated REI grip send me a pm. I have a new plain edge I'd sell.

Although, it is more expensive, but I am very much enjoining S30V 550SG. (I was confirmed by Jason that D2 also comes in SG) Only from Custom knife site. (2nd from the bottom)

Go to cabela's and get yourself a D2 grip. The sand ones have a fancy snakeskin texture to em, and for $120, you're getting D2, not bad..

I felt the same way, but I know exactly what tipped me over: Doug Ritter's M2 large and small.
