Hello BMK Jason,

Would there be separate page for 550SG? I think that would be fantastic that people know more about Griptilian variation.

Currently I only see 550HG web page

Does Benchmade offers 550SG as generic Griptilian line up with D2 / S30V or we must purchase from Custom knife site ?

I sure would like for all of your authorized dealer to carry 550SG as I have seen people trying to buy used D2 Bone Collector 15020. It was 3.36" D2 blade only and weight 5.59oz instead of 3.45" with feather weight 3.76oz as you know.

There are no in-line 550 SKUs with either S30V or D2... so no, not really. Best bet is to do a Custom knife!

Back in the oval hole days we were a bit less particular about assigning strict SKU configurations. So it's very possible it came that way from the shop. But could also just as easily be a hybrid.

I'm no expert but I'm thinking if the knife has an oval hole and no box, then it's a hybrid somebody put together on their own.

Edited to add: the 2006 catalog notes that the blade steel was upgraded to 154CM and the handles are available black, OD, sand and skyline camo. A red trainer was also available.

Not sure about the box. Didn't even think to ask. I should get it by tomorrow and I'll follow up. I'm thinking it's a hybrid though based on what TB posted.

Oh, ok. I just feel a bit of sad that not many people know 550 does come in SG. I didn't know until you have mentioned it. I don't think I am the only one who wants 550 is SG.. I am hoping many people to know about it.

The 551 with an orange handle is listed as a new product in the 2009 catalog and by then, of course, the 550 design had already changed to a round hole.

It seems most likely the knife in question is a hybrid.

The mini grips came in green and purple handles with oval holes and flat ground blades around 2003+/-. Not sure about orange and full size.
